confusion

Hi this is going to sound weird but I'm not sure if I've asked this question before But dose anyone else get Confusion / flustered / memory loss ( see why the weirdness I can't remember if I'd asked before )
but it seems to be getting worse I don't have problems with long term memory but I do have short term issues eg I hear something on the news and straight away forget what it was or I forget my phone when we go out but I forget it immediately after I just thought better get the phone then I just "don't"
and yesterday was the final straw we were about to go to store when Hubby said "lock the back door and we'll get going" - now I keep my keys on a side table and they are the only set as we haven't got any copies done yet , so Yes I lock the door put keys back on the bench (not in my handbag) and off we go,
halfway to town I get a brain thought Keys !
so on return home Hubby had to Break into our house - it was scary just how easy that was too.
but it's things like that im doing all the time I was making 1 cup of tea & 1 coffee and I put the tea bag in and then put coffee in as well - same cup,
ive even made hubby a cup of tea then straight away asked him if he want's one forgetting I'd just done it. I don't know if its all the medication making me foggy or the RA / Fibromyalgia
so anyone else experiencing this sort of thing I'd like to hear Thanks

Hi Loring, Thanks I smiled when I read you shopping bags as I constantly forget my list even when I put it by the door, if I don't put it in my handbag straight away I forget it.
and yes I too try to do brain stuff but that seems to be on a different level I do them fine but ask me 5 minutes later what game I did I can't remember.

Oooh yeah, this is me all over! Give me something to lose and I can do it for you in 30 seconds or less...I wish I could make money at this, I'd be one rich woman.

It feels like there are all these drawers in my brain, each holding a memory - but the drawers are locked. If something triggers one to open, I'll remember all kinds of things....but otherwise, those memories are lost to me. This can be whole conversations, movies, books, pretty much anything. Very weird. And I agree with you, Loring, it is scary.

It's especially disturbing when it's older memories I can't access....one of my daughters will bring up something that happened years ago (something I was an active part of) and my mind is blank. Eventually, a lightbulb usually goes on...but not always.

I TRY not to worry about it and be mindful of what I'm doing while I'm doing it. Notes and lists are good, but if I write too many they end up just being one more thing I have to wade through to remember what it is I'm trying to do! I'm sure it doesn't help that I'm disorganized by nature and no good at relaxing, so I'm constantly thinking I need to do something, move forward, go, go, go!

My doctor says this spaciness is a trade-off for getting the pain relief and sleep help from the meds I'm on. He's not worried about it, so I guess I shouldn't be, either.

BadDay. I tried posting this early this morning and I was unable to post anything on the forum. The problem has been fixed so sorry for the late response. Below in my response...finally!

We do have cognitive memory problems with fibro. I've put things in the refrigerator that really belong in the pantry, I've forgotten my phone number once, and I've even tried to start my car with the key to my freezer...two times. I've even had no recollection of a conversation my kids said I had with them. I started crying over that because I thought I was getting Alzheimer's. I was checked out and I was fine.

I find that getting upset about it and worrying about it only makes it worse. I chuckle about it and am more careful when doing things now. I also take folic acid capsules daily. They have helped me. Doctors are starting to use this for Alzheimer's patients so I figure it couldn't hurt!

There also is a terrific book that I read years ago called The Memory Book by Harry Lorayne and Jerry Lucas. You can still find it on Amazon. I use techniques out of that book to help me remember. I used one a couple of days ago. I was going grocery shopping and thought of a couple of things I didn't put on my list. (If it isn't written on the list I forget it.). I needed fresh green beans and fresh mushrooms and I didn't want to stop, get the list, and write it down so I decided that when I walked into the produce department I would envision green been growing all over the department with mushrooms growing between them. I headed to the store and when I entered the produce department that's the first thing I "saw"! I had to smile because it was funny AND I remembered these things without writing them down. There are other techniques in the book and I've used them over the years. So you might want to pick up a copy.

Lastly, though you seem to be forgetting more from your description in your post so why don't you go to drugs.com and look up each of your medications and see if any of them could be causing you more memory problems. I know I would want to change medications if one was causing me this problem.

Hi wow thanks all in an odd way it helps to know it's not just me
I smiled when I read about putting things in the fridge instead of pantry I do this often I have even tried to answer the TV remote when the phone was ringing
even now as I write this I knew what I wanted to say but am finding myself staring at a blank page having No idea what it was !
I think some of it may be drugs but it has also been happening on & off over a few years now
a scary one was I think I actually "lost" a whole year when I try to remember certain details I remember bits then nothing.
