For the past 3 days I've been having trouble walking. I have horrible lower back, hip, knee pain and top of my glute. I also feel the pain my spine. I'm 25 but walk as if I'm 85. I feel I need a cane or something. I'm worried.

Is this normal for fibromyalgia or could it be something else? confused

Alex, three years ago I needed two canes to walk and my steps were in inches. I headed to a board certified rheumatologist and found out I had something else along with fibro. I started taking a muscle relaxer and that helped me significantly.

Also, magnesium malate might help you, along with vitamin D3. A deficiency in either of these can cause pain. Many are deficient in these. The magnesium really helps the muscles. Magnesium malate has malic acid in it and that is found in apples. Studies have shown that this can help people with fibro. You also could try glucosamine sulfate. I take that because it's good for joints.

Whatever you do, don't stop walking. You need to keep moving with fibro or you will be stiff as a board and have more pain. If you feel you need a cane to keep from falling, then get one. I bet you won't need it for long, though. I don't need mine anymore.

I do trigger point therapy on myself. I bought The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook on Amazon and it has helped me find where the trigger points are that are causing the pain I am feeling. I then massage that area and the muscles settle down. If the trigger points are in my back, I use a tennis ball against a wall to do the massaging. It really is a good book and isn't expensive either so this is another consideration.

I hope you do start feeling better soon. There is a world of info in this forum plus we have wonderful members who love to help one another. So smile! You will get a handle on this. Try not to stress out and worry so much because that adds to your pain. Take one day at a time. Once you find what helps you control the pain, you can go on to have a full and enjoyable life in spite of fibro. I've done so many things I never thought I was going to be able to do! Neat things! Just plan on enjoying each new day and don't dwell on sickness.

I think in a flare its possible to have days like that..i have trigger points in my hips that lock up, causing pain...i used to have to see a therapist to get these unlocked, but like sherrrine.., i got the trigger point book...and can now release those locked points myself.


Have they ruled out other things?

Sounds like an attack of siactic(?). The nerve running from the lower back to your foot is inflammed. Gentle stretches, massage, and ice or heat will help.
I had a terrible attack a few years ago and needed three months of therapy to cure it.

I called my doctors office today since my pain has not
gone away so he wants to see me tomorrow to examine me. Hopefully he will know what's going on because he says it doesn't sound like fibro is causing it.

We shall see.

I will do research on the trigger points for some relief as well. Hot showers work wonders for a short period.

The only things ruled out so far are arthritis, diabetes, lupus and gout. I'll ask the dr. tomorrow if I should be taking any other tests

I know the feeling personally. I am 32 years old and i hurt all the time in my lower back and legs. Just today i was walking like a zombie pretty much cause of my meds. It sucks badly

Fibro to people who don't have it but understands that not all fibro symptoms are same for all fibro patient's, then there are the insurance pre Auth who see word fibro and are ignorant denying PT, "patient has fibro and had an appeals denial 00/00" did not READ clinical nor open denied file to see was not for same NEW + different. " Stereo Type" of FIBROMYALGIA, LAZY + still gets paid hey maybe a BONUS keeping cost down while patients SUFFER! My dr said PT best treatment early Oct, Nov Dr get worse poss surgery if PT DELAYED. I told ins I was going to scheduled surgery even after I had adv of mistake made by review person. WOW PT APPRVD. Pay attention to any ache or decline which could be overlooked by insurance because you have "FIBROMYALGIA". I was diagnosed early 2000, thought dr didn't know what I had but to appease me. I had to retire in Jan disabled DEPRESSING.

Oh my! That's a lot to go through and I'm sorry!

My short term disability from work was denied but I'm trying to appeal it because insurance companies are stupid. ..sorry I'm just sour from all of the stress they've given me.

My long term disability was stopped after two years because they filed me with fibro and depression. They called it self reported illness because there is no tests for them. Despite me also having lupus.
They will do anything to keep from dishing out the money owed to you. Okay, vent over.

Awwww :( That is so frustrating and I completely relate. My doctor hates Metlife as much as I do because they keep demanding more and more which is impossible. I'll see how my appeal goes :/ I need money and won't be back to work for another few weeks. Sigh
