I love to read inspiring stories. We take "Guideposts" magazine, and both my husband and I devour the stories about
people who seem to defy the odds.
When I'm having a bad day in any way (but especially when the fibro is doing battle), I try to remember that people much worse off than myself are having a much rougher time, but their motto seems to be 'if life gives you lemons, make lemonade.'
People like Joni Eareckson Tada, who was totally paralyzed in a diving accident in her teens, and who now paints beautiful pictures with a paintbrush in her mouth and who can even drive a modified van, are a huge inspiration to me. Renee Bondi is another.
Or, Tony Melendez, who was born without arms, and who plays the guitar beautifully with his toes(!) make me catch my breath and ask myself, "What am I complaining about?? Look what they've done with their lives. If they can make it, so can I."
So many posts here from newbies show that they feel desolute and wonder how they're going to stand all the many negative facets of fibro. It can feel like you're standing at the foot of a mountain, wondering, "How can I possibly make it up there?"
I'd just like to suggest that if you do a search on something like "inspiring disability stories," it will likely make your day; especially when the going is especially tough. It sure makes mine!
