Have you had a neck Xray? It can be 'Cervical Spondylosis'. I have this grinding sound, too.
Apparently ~80% of people who are 40 have spondylosis-type changes starting to show on Xray. It's a form of spinal breakdown that happens with aging. Gravity is likely a component, too, in the breakdowns of the spine and neck as we age.
Popping in joints is the sound created by nitrogen being displaced.
As long as you are not having neurological symptoms, such as shooting electrical pains, tingling, numbness, or headaches starting from your neck or feelings of dizziness and passing out, I wouldn't worry about
it much.
The hip 'popping' sound can also be the ligament moving over a bone near the hip. It's called Snapping Hip. I also have that. I noticed it as a child while doing gymnastics and dance. The Sports Medicine doctor told me about
it. Again, it is a sound, and not necessarily glaring pathology.
