Relaxing with Christmas/holiday movies: Favorites?

I love Christmas movies!  Here are some our family enjoys:

--Miracle on 34th Street (both the old and new versions)

--Home Alone and Home Alone 2

--Come To The Stable

--It's A Wonderful Life (still chokes me up every time)

--White Christmas

--Holiday Inn

--The Christmas Box

--The Bells of St. Mary's

--The Gift of Love (1978 TV movie with Marie Osmond and Timothy Bottoms; haven't seen it in years, but liked it))

--A Charlie Brown Christmas (of course!)

--How The Grinch Stole Christmas

--just about any of the oldie TV shows Christmas shows (Andy Griffith, Little House, etc.)

Probably forgetting some.  Which Christmas or holiday movies do you enjoy?    (this little guy needs a Santa hat!)

Christmas movies on Hallmark and Lifetime.

No cable TV at my house, but I've heard great things about the Hallmark channel, and Debbie, I'd probably love the chassic movie channels (maybe it's good I don't get those channels or I'd be watching too much TV!).

We also enjoy the Hallmark movies that Michael Landon Jr. puts out: Love Comes Softly, Love's Enduring Promise, etc.. Love 'em and they're all family friendly, which we appreciate. I wonder if there are any of those with Christmas themes? Have not found any, yet, but we're enjoying the ones we have, and the prices haven't been bad at all, either.

Sentimental here, too, Debbie. Get out the Kleenex!

Well....I will probably lose my MAN CARD for admitting this. Sometimes I get sucked into the vortex that is the Hallmark Channel. I really like Christmas in Conway. 1st because it was shot in Conway and Myrtle Beach area. 2nd. Because it's really good, sad but good and 3rd because it stars Mary-Louise Parker. She is. ... well, let's just say I really really like her. ;)

AustenFan: I haven't seen "The Nativity Story" yet, but have heard it's really good. I should put it on my 'want list. I haven't seen "The Shop Around The Corner," either, but the name rings a bell. How did I miss a Jimmy Stewart movie???!

Michael: Awww...liking The Hallmark Channel only shows you have a heart. I've never heard of "Christmas in Conway"--will do a search on that.

Sunny: I LOVE "Meet Me in St. Louis"!! Haven't seen it in years, though.
Ditto "The Muppet's Christmas Carol"--should have added that one to my list. My hubby gets such a kick out of that one (I like it, too). :)
Isn't "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians" an oldie but goodie from the '50s? Love the oldies! Someone was very creative with that idea. :)

I've loved Meet Me in St. Louis since I was a child. And Yes, "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians" is one of the bad black and whites that came out 50s. My mom has a strange love for terrible movies, then of course I went off and married someone who also love terrible movies. They had some really creative, strange, out-there ideas, just not always well executed. Some of them had horrible titles but were really good like "Attack of the Puppet People" sounds ridiculous but was a really good flick.

vestabula (Donna):  I really love those oldie movies, too, and I thought the Santa in the older version of "Miracle on 34th Street" looked so Santa-y; very authentic.  The old movies have such class.  Everyone is dressed to the max, lives in really fancy places, etc.  Glamour--a nice little escape and fun way to rewind, watching those.

Sunny:  Your post reminded me of "The Invasion of the Body Snatchers" (the oldie '50s version).  I think that's the one where everyone carries around a pod, and you can't fall asleep or you're doomed!  Then there's the one with the giant spiders, I think it was.  Where did they get this stuff?!  Fun to watch, though--what imaginations those writers had!

Firefly18:  My husband has lots of John Wayne movies, and I sometimes watch them with him.  Yes--"Donovan's Reef" is a good one!  I love watching the warm surf in the middle of winter, also. :)  "The Bishop's Wife" is another for my 'want' list.  And, love those ol' "Rudolph" and the other cartoons.  The songs on them are still so popular every Christmas.

Those Hallmark movies are certainly popular. As I posted earlier, we don't have any access to cable, but I'll have to keep searching the stores for more of their movies. Good stuff!

I, too, love the first version of Miracle on 34th Street. I usually watch the Hallmark movies but I don't think we have a Hallmark channel. One movie that both my son and Husband love is National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation with Chevy Chase. This movie always makes me laugh.

I sure can relate to having a squirrel in the house. We had a red squirrel in our house once. It got in from a broken dryer vent. It was running in every room it could get into, trying to find a way out. We were not home. It left poo in every room it went into. How did we get it out. First there was me trying to barricade with boxes. How silly, the squirrel was climbing the walls with ease. Next, my Husband fetched a big fish net from the basement. He was chasing it all over. We then opened the window in the laundry room. It did finally go there. Thought it was out. Closed the window and went to sleep. Next day I went to the pool. When I came home I headed to the laundry room. When I opened the door it was a mess. The squirrel was still there. Finally called an animal removal expert. He decided to go in with big gloves to catch it. He could not grab it and it ran into the space in the wall, same way it came in. We are hoping it made its way outside. I watch them outside. They almost fly through the cedars.

I am talking about productions of A Christmas Carol. Usually they run Wednesday through Sunday for a few weeks before the holiday.

If you are in the performing arts, odds are that you do either Christmas Carol or Nutcracker most years. My ex-hubbie was a production manager, so I was always involved with some company or another.

As a kid, I really loved a Christmas Carol for its gothic feel. I still watch new versions if they come out and the original when I remember?

Thank you! You know I have been reading on here for a long time, but I am not sure if I ever really did introduce myself. My daughter has been having some trouble, so I have posted more because of that. I have fibro and lupus.

I love A Christmas Carol too. My favorite is the one with Kelsey Grammer. My kids and I love that movie. One of my all time favorites! It really touches me.

I love the snow man too! Not many people know about that.
