A bit about me (new member) and a SYMPTOM missing from your list

On the list of symptoms posted on this site... I have an addition that I noticed... but didn't relate it my Fibro. until I seen it posted on a different site as a symptom..
On this sites list... #25. ALTERATION OF TASTE, SMELL and HEARING. I have also noticed an "Olfactory Hallucination"... (I hallucinate SMELLS).. While driving in my car, I would have sworn that my glove box had been turned into an oven, because I smelt a freshly baked "Chocolate Cake"... But this is such a SENSITIVE sensation that I once smelt a "Hot Dog w/ mustard and onions"... and another time, it was a "Burnt Omelette".

It took a while for me to figure out WHY I kept getting out of bed, because I thought I smelt "Wood Smoke"... or an "Electrical Fire"... and would go through the house checking everything... But my smoke detectors never went off! ... I FINALLY realized that if I could smell FOOD... then maybe I was also smelling Burning wood, and Electrical Fires... (anyone that has smelt smoldering wiring in your car or home, KNOWS the smell I'm talking about.)

As for how to control the fibro... I have been using Oxycontin (now Oxyneo) for years... NOTHING else has worked, and causes bad side effects. My Rhumatologist gave up on me... He said my Fibromyalgia was too severe, and all he could do was refer me to a Pain Management clinic; it took 2 years to get into one... and after a month of shooting needles in my shoulders, legs, arms and even my neck (which they warned me was risky).. they finally said that I was showing NO Improvement, and they could do no more for me, and that I should just continue on my regular medication (Oxy)... but EVERY Dr. wants to cut me down... and does.. to the point where I can't deal with the pain.. but they will not increase my dosage back to where it works for me! Why do they INSIST on putting me on things that DON'T WORK.... and getting off of the ONE THING that has helped me... Oxy does not only help with the Pain, but with a number of the other symptoms... (Of which I have VERY MANY..)

So let me get this straight... We can't remember what is going on but at the same time, we hear and smell things that aren't there... too funny.

I swear, if I don't laugh at myself, I would cry...

Hi, Solitary. Welcome to the forum. I'm glad you found "Fibro 101."

I'm sorry you're having such a hard time getting the medication you need. It's really too bad that some people have to abuse it to the point where they make it hard for those who actually need it. I had to go to my doctor's office yesterday to pick up my Tramadol prescription for the first time...weird.

Interesting idea about the sensory changes.

I do have a very heightened sense of smell, and not usually in a good way. I can't handle perfume, scented candles, etc. Even garbage bags that have an odor to them are too much for me.

I've become really hard of hearing, but yet I'm the first one to run to turn down the remote during action scenes or swelling music....ouch!!

Taste changes I haven't noticed...

I used to smell cigarette smoke all the time and I was constantly looking around to see where the smell was coming from.

It doesn't happen so much these days, just every once in a while.

Hello Solitary, Just wanted to share my experience with you. Before the weather turned cold, I slept upstairs with all the windows open. A horrible nauseating smell of propane kept pouring in. It literally gave me a sick headache and I had to constantly shut the window to sleep. I begged my hubby to go out and check the tank and lines! I was soo sure we had a leak! He humored me for several weeks,but could smell Nothing! Finally, the propane man found a very small "crimp" in the line that was right under the upstairs windows! He could not smell it but found it by testing the line! I had smelled it like a major gas leak that scared me for almost 3 Weeks! I also taste things that aren't in my food,and hear radios! Can't stand loud TV's either! Wonder if the more "tender points" you have, the more "Sensory Misfires" you experience with this fun Fibro?!
