Turmeric Oil?

I just read about turmeric oil in another thread here, and rather than bring this up there, I thought I'd start a new thread in hopes of getting even more information.

So...what is it? I realize turmeric is supposed to be really good for inflammation, but I'm wondering about the oil. Can I make it myself, or do I need to buy it? Have any of you here had good luck with it? How to use it? How often? That kind of thing.

I am having a miserable time with my left elbow, which is shooting pains up to my neck and down to my fingertips....I've had neck and shoulder pain on the left all my life, but this is something new. My doc is referring me to an orthopedist, which terrifies me after living through bilateral knee replacements, but one day at a time, I guess.

I'm quite fond of Tiger Balm for the pain, but I know turmeric is a substance that may actually provide some real healing, so will be interested to hear what you guys have to say.

Not familiar with this topically. I take tumeric force, which is an oil extract from the whole plant in a capsule form.

By starting this i was able to not need an increase in my anti inflamatory, which i really did not want to take more of.

I will be interested in this topic also...i do use oregano oil ( see a study by geargetown univ hospital), it is a strong pain killer, but very pungent smell, so i use it when very strong pain, but usually when i am staying at home. Having said that i was having outer hip pain once, used oregano oil and the pain was gone for days..

I have not studied a lot of the oils.

I've used oregano oil and olive leaf extract, both of which are supposed to be very good antibiotics, mostly for sinus infections. I've never heard of oregano for pain relief, interesting..... But hey, it's cheap and you don't need a prescription, and it's safe, so I'd try that before I'd try other things....

Oregano is a strong antiviral, as well as one of the strongest topical pain killers. It grows along the highways here, but then is polluted.. So you need a clean source.

I used turmeric capsules a few years ago, when a doctor I had decided I was taking too much pain killer. It helped, some. I have never tried the oil.

I believe you are referring to my reference of using Turmeric Essential Oil. You can get it at a health food store, online or through a multi level company that prob. sells in your town. (I can't afford that one)

It is sort of thick and yellowish. I put 1 drop on the spot that hurts and rub it in. I have not had any problems with the brand I use. (Eden's Garden............they have a store front on Amazon or from their own website out of CA. I don't make any money from telling you my experience as I don't sell anything :). I just felt like that disclaimer needed to be out there. I paid about $5 for the small bottle around Christmas time.

I put the drop on the spot that hurts...........knees, back and rub it in. If you have super sensitive skin, you might want to add a few drops of a carrier oil (olive, coconut, avocado, apricot, rose hips) to cut it, but I really had no problems with this essential oil being put on my skin.

It is cheaper than Ben Gay, it is not nearly as smelly as Ben Gay and to me it works better than the RX cream I was given that cost a lot of money.

It is supposed to help with pain and inflammation. It was a help to me, so I have just wanted to mention it in case it might help some of you too. We all seem to have different things that help and with this one being so cheap, I thought it was worth it to spread the word. I put it on my sciatic nerve pain area and over a disc in my back that feels like bone on bone pain. I also have put it on my knees and on carpel tunnel areas.

My wife swears by Voltaren rub on gel. I have used it for back pain with some relief. However if I put it on every muscle that hurt I'd have to bathe in it :)

I have some Voltaren and it works well, but I have an aspirin family allergy so I go without using it often. I will stick with Turmeric Essential OIl for now.

I can't deal with aspirin either, but I swear by Tiger Balm. I will look forward to trying turmeric oil, however. I wonder if you can make you own?

I bet you could Cimorene, I think I am going to look for some and mix it with the coconut oil I use.

I had heard that the turmeric oil stains your clothing. Is that true? I have also read that if you rub it in well enough to start with, it won't cause this. You just have to wait for it to dry.

I haven't had a problem with it, but I rub it in very well when I use it.
