I took probiotics for about 3 years after my colitis which was because of an infection with C. Diff. I did eventually stop buying probiotics but continue to eat yogurt daily. I am lactose intolerant and the only dairy I can eat is yogurt. The bacteria takes care of the lactose.
I do buy probiotics if I must be on antibiotics. Antibiotics strip you of both bad and good bacteria. You need good bacteria in your stomach.
I can't say that it helps pain in anyway. Some Doctors don't recommend probiotics but it was my Gastroenterologist who suggested I try them for the I.B. that continued after my infection. I actually have had I.B. my whole life. My stomach is working better now. I do attribute Magnesium supplements as being a help for my stomach.
If you have stomach problems you might want to discuss it with your Health Care provider. You really need your stomach to work to be able to manage the medications that you take.
I just bought some probiotics to use while on vacation. We are going to a destination that it is best for me to avoid any dairy.
