Slowly coming on, now in huge flare up with extreme rib pain. Both sides. Went to emergency once, no heart attack, gave morphine to settle it down and Pain Patch on areas........much better, but short lived. Anybody else ? If so what are you doing for it and what has doctor said. Have had Fibro since 2001. Have tried MANY prescriptions that finally now are helping taking the edges off. Lexapro, excellent antidepressant with little to no side effects. Flexeril tends to flare up the spasms, Zanaflex works better in lower dosages. Percocet is best pain killer known will little side effects and easy on the tummy. Zantac for Gerd. Trazadone for stage 4 sleep. Gabapentin/Neurontin for NERVE pain which we all know is the lying cause of this disease. It helps but does make you sleepy, take a lower dose to start out with. We all suffer anxiety with this absolutely "awful" disease. I use Xanax as needed on bad days. It helps immensely. Calms you down in 15 minutes. I was diagnosed at the Cleveland Clinic and have confirmed with 3 Rheumotolgists that this is Fibro for sure. Also have horrible "Charlie horses" (spasms) in calves of legs that bring me in a jump out of bed to get rid of. Nothing has helped this unless I take a stronger dose of Zanaflex with sleeping pill and Neurontin an hour before bedtime. Knocks ya out..........but you sleep much better. Too many drugs ? YOU BET.......I hate it. BUT..........it beats the heck out of living in pain every day. Input is always welcome. Thanks.

Hi Sandra, And welcome to the forum. You may have costochrondritis (sp))...
It effects the muscles around the chest area. I have it often. No fun...
I think muscle relaxers help with this.
I take a lot of meds myself and so do many here. I hope that you feel better soon. You are not alone in this. We have all been there and know where you are coming from.
Take care and have a good day.
Check out the first thread on the forum "fibro 101". Lots of information there.
Hugs, Karen..,.

I am sorry you are dealing with rib pain! When I had costochondritis Motrin helped - added to everything else I was taking :) and my heating pad was my best friend.
Mine was on the left side only, but I couldn't wear a bra for 3 months - thank goodness it was winter!
Hope you start feeling better soon!!

Yep, a lot of us have this rib pain ..mine is mostly on the right side around the ribs and up to shoulder blade on that side..
It helps to stretch the area out daily..heat of course, but also topical pain relievers..i cannot take high doses of meds so i really rely on the topicals to relieve a lot of this pain..
Hope your flare passes , february is tough for flares..we had 40 today.. And that helped.

I suffer from it to my ribs and my breast bones for me it's the worst flare up. I take ibuprofen and even then it still hurts

Wow symmetric rib pain on both sides... geez...mine is always the right side and it stays with me some days better than others... i was once admitted to hospital because the doctor originally thought it was gall-bladder/kidney/ upper intestinal... nope... Fibro it is.

Sorry you are suffering!
Was just thinking about the charlie horses in your calves….I read somewhere just recently that one things that helps with those is to try to hydrate better before bed. I know it's not ideal cuz then you'll have to get up to pee, but maybe just a glass of water or a small bottle of gatorade or G2 would help. Just a thought….
Hope you find relief soon!
