I didn't see that Flare coming.

Today I went to my doctor to do some switching of medication. I was on Butrans 10mg patch for my fibro pain but had found out thru my pharmacist and an ER doc that I was basically "stoned" on my medication. The pain was close to gone but the side effects were too much. :( So he took a blood sample-he thought another med of mine was causing some side effects and wanted to make sure I wasn't taking too much of that. And then we discussed lowering the Butrans to 5mg instead of 10 hoping that maybe the pain relief would still be enough and lesser side effects. Well this evening I was getting up from the couch and before I fully stood up, I knew a flare had hit. And it has hit hard. I feel like the flu and a bus hit me all at once. So, I took my nightly meds a little early and have curled up to watch some t.v. and not move. Thank goodness I have the next 2 days off.

I hope your adjustment helps. I believe that the stoned feeling would be gone in time, but that doesn't help at the moment. I hope you feel better soon...

Sherrine, i do believe part of it is withdrawl from the higher dose (10mg) of the patch. But i switched that same day from 10mg down to 5mg so i think its just the adjustment from strong to less. This i woke to pain in the same areas but less noticable. Hopefully a few more days and it will even out!

I am so sensitive to med changes. Even 5 mg one way or the other throws my body into a flare. It is so frustrating. I hope you continue to level out, and the pain subsides.
