Thinking of getting one for my carpel tunnel issues and worrying that Fibro will make it ten times more painful. What has your experience been like? What location? Did you take pain meds beforehand/after, and did they help?

I have not. Are you having this done by a neurologist ? It was advised for me to get a nerve conduction test by a neurologist .

Hi Anna: Yes, I had one several years ago, if I'm thinking of the same test where a thin needle is inserted into various muscles? I had a wonderful technician who was super fast and moved the needle around to various locations very rapidly.

It wasn't bad at all. I don't think it affected my fibro that I can recall. The whole test was so fast that it was amazing. I didn't know what to expect, but am glad I had it done, just to rule out other conditions.

I didn't take any pain meds before or after. The pain was so short term because of how fast the needle was moved here and there.

I have had 2 EMGs. I have carpel tunnel in both wrists and Osteoarthritis is also being detected. It was not a painful test. I am in Canada. The first was ordered by a Neurologist. The second was ordered by a Nurse Practitioner and it was done in a Hospital. The person who did the 2nd test confirmed that I had carpel tunnel but she said that she would not recommend surgery for it. I do wear wrist braces at bedtime which have helped stop hand numbness. I also do some exercises for my wrist that were taught by a Physical Therapist. I made no adjustments to the medication I was on.

I also had a nerve conduction test where needles were inserted all over my shoulders, arms and hands due to carpal tunnel and other various issues.
As with Luvminis, it wasn't too bad because it was done very fast by a neurologist. The initial stick is the worse but, I'm a big baby when it comes to needles so "any" stick stinks! turn
I also had injections in my wrists for carpal tunnel (Diagnosed 6 yrs ago but not bad enough for surgery) and honestly, the hand surgeon that did them the 1st time wasn't painful. My pain mgmt. Dr. (same one that does Trigger Points) done them the last 2 times. First time, no pain, 2nd time, he used ultrasound to find "places" to inject & don't know if it's because they've gotten worse but, it was very painful.
For all the "needles" that I've had poked in me by all Dr.'s, I've never had to take a sedative or any pain med other than my normal meds. Did not increase the Fibro pain but the Trigger Points actually decreased it!

I've had a couple of EMGs and I don't really think that Fibro made it more painful. They weren't pleasant but they were definitely far from the worst pain I've ever had. That said, my understanding is that the pain can be worse if problems are there and they didn't find any nerve conduction issues when they checked me.
