Vac for tile floors and pet hair

I use the Shark 10" Rechargable Floor and Carpet Sweeper. It weighs about two pounds. It isn't a vacuum that sucks up the hair. It has a rolling brush that sweeps up the hair into a removable dust cup. I love this! I have two cats, one a long haired cat, and they shed like crazy. I used to sweep my tile floors but the sweeping motion hurt my back. Then I discovered this sweeper and have bought one for my daughter and she loves hers also.

It works great on tile floors and even picks up cat litter that the cats track between their toes. I also use it as a touch up for my carpeting and it does a decent job. This way I don't have to pull out my large vacuum to touch up a few areas where things have been tracked in from outside.

I bought mine online through the Walmart site. I just checked and it is still $29.98! I've had mine for years. They have other, more expensive versions but this works for me. The newer models have a filter you need to change whereas this has a dust cup that doesn't cost me more money. When I ordered mine, I had them send it to my local Walmart store and they notified me by email when it arrived and I picked it up there. This way there was no shipping and handling either.

I second the Swiffer Dusters! I can't use a vacuum either. A great hint for Ljm and all, you can purchase dust refills for the Swiffer at the Dollar Stores :) The fit is a bit tight but I have done this for years. I have a medium hair dog, used to have a long hair cat. He sheds constantly!!!! The duster works everyday and gets into most tight and underneath spots that a vacuum wouldn't. On this same subject, I purchased the Swiffer Mopper. There are currently no refills at the dollar store but I am going to check out Costco for lower price options. One bottle lasts me about 12 mops. But wait, I live in a four room apartment plus bathroom. No carpets but a throw one in living room. The Mopper is a bit heavy with the bottle weight being on only one side but if I mop once a week, it's great. I just discovered that instead of the more expensive "Swiffer mop pads", the Dollar Store duster pads stick on this as well.
The dust and mop pads just get taken off and into the garbage with massive hair and icky floor stuff. Simple enough for me.
I am generally a person who prefers to use natural cleaners, like vinegar mixed with 2/3 water in spray bottle, however, for a great mop, I am ok with the Swiffer cleaner.

Ia Lady is right. The Shark vacuums are supposed to be the lightest vacuums out there. I have a Simplicity vacuum that has a lot of power but it is heavier. I use this vacuum once a week.

But I also have that little Shark sweeper for cat hair and touch-ups during the week. It has a swivel head like the Shark vacuums and the head is narrow so I can get it under things easily. I use the sweeper almost daily and it only takes me a few minutes to have my home looking like I just spent the day cleaning it. And, I can lift the sweeper with one finger. Love it!

You might try googling both the Shark vacuums and the Shark sweepers. They have several of each to choose from. This will give you a better idea if this is what you are looking for. I do like a Swiffer duster for my furniture but I didn't have luck with the one for the floors. My cats track litter out of their pans and the Swiffer duster for the floors doesn't pick up things like that but the Shark sweeper does. It even picks up Cheerios.

The sweeper isn't a broom. It has a roller brush, like a regular vacuum, that sweeps up partials on the floor into its dust cup. It works like a vacuum but with no suction. But it's good for quick pick-ups and hair. I use my big vacuum for weekly deep cleaning. I can't sweep with a regular broom because that kills my back.

Puppylover, when you buy the Swiffer duster, get the long-handled one. This way you don't have to stretch to reach all areas and you don't have to bend so much either.

Lucinda, I use white vinegar and water also for my tile floors. This was suggested to me for my tile because soap film will attract more dirt. I've had my tile for 16 years and have only used vinegar and water on it and it looks great and I love the fact kids can run around my home at Thanksgiving and their white socks are still clean on the bottoms when they leave. I have to pat myself on the back for that one.

Back to Puppylover...I'm glad you love the sweeper. I've had mine for years and when I bought one for my daughter last year I picked up another one for me. The newer versions now have a filter that you need to replace...more money for them...and I'm afraid the sweeper with the dust cup might disappear. But I'm prepared. The new one is still in the box since my other one keeps going like the Energizer Bunny.

My dog likes to play when I get my sweeper out. Since it's so light I aim it towards her and chase her for a few steps and she takes off running but comes right back for more play. It's so cute. I LOVE animals!
