hi everyone.....I have a question....this could be false but I've heard that fibromyalgia stems from Lyme disease. Has anyone else been told this? I have every single fibromyalgia symptoms off and on for years haven't gotten an official diagnosis. Was tested for Lyme, and according to CDC, you need 2 out of 3 bands present to be positive. I had only 1 band out of 3 positive.....so something still showed up, but it's not an official Lyme diagnosis right now. Getting retested next month. Has anyone else heard of this?

Hi. IloveJesus, and welcome! I don't think we've met but I see you have posted on HealingWell. In answer to your question, no. Fibro and Lyme are two separate illnesses. Lyme is caused by a tick bite and the treatment is different than with Fibro. Fibro they think is a neurological problem. But, Fibro and Lyme share many of the same symptoms so it's good you are still trying to rule out Lyme disease. There is no real good test to rule out Fibro. It's a process of elimination type thing.

We can have Fibro and Lyme together though but these are two separate illnesses. Hope this helps.

Be sure to read Fibro 101...the first thread on the forum. There are good links about Fibro and you can learn a lot there and maybe clarify things in you mind about this. Good stRting links are A Thorough Explanation of Fibromyalgia and What Else Could It Be. All of Fibro 101 is good so do read it.

Thank you. Yes, I'm new to this forum. I got tested for Lyme and doctor saying its negative but I still had a "band" show presence. I have some on forum saying that means it's Lyme but doctor saying its not. I'm so confused and cannot afford a Lyme specialist. For 5 years I've had tinnitus (brain MRI normal), unexplained fatigue, achy, tingling on arm (ekg normal), sensitive to light and sounds.....

What you are describing are symptoms of Fibro too. There is a list of symptoms in Fibro 101.

Have you been bitten by a tick or seen a bullseye rash? You don't always see a rash but from what I understand you usually do have a rash.

If I were you I would listen to your doctor if you have confidence in them and if you have a good rapport with one another. If you develop other symptoms that worry you. Discuss it with your doctor. Also, labs can make mistakes and you could have had a false positive. I'm just guessing here. I'm glad you are being retested again next month. Your doctor is following through with you and that is great!

Just be aware of your symptoms and if they get worse and worse do check with your doctor. Fibro isn't considered a progressive illness. We will have flares where we are worse but the flares will end and we feel somewhat better again. Meantime, try to relax. Don't let your mind conjure up problems. Your doctor sounds thorough and I think will get to the bottom of this for you.
