My doctor just bailed on me with no notice and I am looking for a new doctor
in central NC.
Please email me through since discussions about
doctors must be private. I wouldn't
mind getting info about
doctors you wouldn't go to either.
Thanks,
Kim

Hi gkamom. I would recommend that you google for a doctor. Type in your locale and fibromyalgia doctor. A rheumatologist diagnosed me with fibromyalgia. But you might want to start with a primary doctor first.
Good luck to you.

Kim, check the names of doctors in your area. Then check each out at healthgrades.com and/or vitals.com. You can learn more about
the doctors, where they went to school, if there are negative reports on them, and there are patient reviews also.
I used these sites, along with word of mouth, to find my great doctors. I found my rheumy through my hairdresser. She had a client who had rheumatoid arthritis and just loved her doctor but my hairdresser didn't know the doctor's name. So she stopped working on me and called her and got his name. Well, a friend of mine gave me the same name so I went home and checked him out on healthgrades.com, loved what I saw, and promptly made an appointment. That was one of the best decisions I made for my pain,

Problem with Healthgrades is that the list of conditions they treat is inaccurate. It says that the information is based on insurance records, but it doesn't say how old the info is.
My doctor was the only doctor treating fibromyalgia when I started with him. I had already been dumped by the Rheum clinic at Duke. I called every single doctor in a 6 county area. He was it and he was out of network.
His practice got bought up by a large Ortho practice looking for Rheumatologist so they could keep all referrals in house and generate referrals to their Physiatrists. They have since bought up just about
every Ortho and Rheum practice in the area.
My doctor is no longer practicing due "to a medical condition that prevents him from treating patients." Problem is they are dumping all fiber patients and they have most of the Rheum. I also got a copy of my records and they are a complete mess. They used an electronic record system with a template for all the possible symptoms. The template says "no fatigue, no headaches, no dry mouth, no ..." Since my doc changed nurses (after my first visit there), no one has bothered to edit the record to change the symptoms I do have. She also has messed up on my prescript
ions. I had to bring narcotic script
s back to be destroyed. They also shredded all the doctors written notes including the questionnaires I had to fill out every visit "to make sure I still needed to be on narcotics" so they wouldn't yank his license.
The nurse has blocked me from seeing any of the Rheums. When she didn't respond to either my electronic messages trying to find out why she was referring my chart to another doctor or my phone call, I called again and asked about
my doc (my appt which had been rescheduled 6 weeks ago was i two days), I found out he was "out with a medical condition". I knew he had been out because there had been problems with my other med refills. I tried making an appointment and they told me I was not allowed.
Then I got a call from her asking why i had tried to make an appointment. I want'd to say "because you won't reposed to me and my appointment was supposed to be yesterday" but I said "because Fibromyalgia is considered a Rheumatological disease and I don't think the Pain doctor is going to want to write for all my script
s." Her answer was "none of our doctors treat fibromyalgia so you can only see the Pain doctor."
This is the practice that has bought up all the practices in like 6 counties. Including Orthopedic and Rheumatology.
So I've looked at Healthgrade and mostly found this same practice. This is why I posted here.

if you have a teaching hospital near you see if you can make an appointment with one of their doctors that treats Fibro. Or you could get an appointment with an Internist who could be your primary care doctor and they could refer you to a rheumy if they feel you need one. This is the only thing I can think of to do since you said all the doctors in your area are in that practice.
My Internist takes care of most of my health problems including Fibro. He suggested I see a rheumatologist when I was having debilitating pain and it was getting worse and worse. He felt something else was going on...and he was right. So I see the rheumy primarily for the ankylosing spondylitis I was diagnosed with.
