Anyone with jaw/tooth issues?

I was diagnosed with fibro last summer. (I'm 37.) I have had trouble with my teeth for years....numerous cavities regardless of dental care and daily brushing/flossing/rinses. I have had four root canals. I know what an abscessed tooth feels like.

I maxed out my dental insurance last year in the middle of 8 teeth needing repair (or crowns replaced). (Last dentist did not fill some correctly, thus the high number at once, all of them needing re-doing or attention. New dentist is slowly fixing what other dentist did. Long story. Not pertaining to the current problem.) So I still have 3 small cavities in my lower left back molars.

I know I clench my teeth/jaw when I sleep, and sometimes during the day, too. I don't have good posture, and I also have tendency to sleep on my stomach. I know all of these contribute to TMJ. I had braces a 2nd time as an adult to correct my bite and stop supposed TMJ, but I'm wondering if it's coming back.

I'm experiencing a dull, near-constant ache in my left jaw, radiating down into that jaw bone, under the jaw (feels like a swollen gland), and into the left ear. Experiencing popping and stopped up ear as well as occasional ringing. Left side of scalp is very tender, and left side of neck (both front and down the back) are both throbbing on and off. Sometimes the dull ache transforms into sharp pains....but thankfully that only lasts a while and then it backs off and goes to dull again.

And the thing that's confusing me most: I have intermittent tingling on my left cheek, outside of jaw bone, all the way to my lips and chin. Almost feels like it does when novocaine wears off and you are getting your feeling back. Tylenol and Motrin don't do much for it.

I have a dental check coming up to make sure there's no infections going on, but I don't think it's an abscess b/c none of those teeth have hot or cold sensitivity issues.

I seem to fit the mold for TMJ except for the tingling. That makes me feel like maybe it's a nerve issue -- some sort of neuralgia....or just fibromyalgia setting up shop in my face/jaw right now versus somewhere else. It seems to move around. I hardly ever have back/leg/hip/rib pain at the same time I have other pain. I'm grateful for that. But I think mouth/tooth/jaw pain is about the worst there is. I think I'd rather have leg or arm pain!

Anyone else with similar experiences?

I've always had great teeth and am faithful about brushing and flossing, etc.

But in the past year, I've had some cavities suddenly appear. My dentist commented that they're developing rapidly and said he believes it's related to my health. Seems odd to me, because I seldom take meds any more, so no dry mouth, etc. I'm just not sure what's going on.

So--I'm wondering if fibro itself can somehow be tied it to more cavities?

I had an extraction done in November and then went into a tailspin...weeks of horrible pain in the jaw and cheek on that same side. It turned out to be muscle spasms and nerve pain that were triggered by the procedure. The dentist couldn't explain what had happened and was very sarcastic and had a distinct lack of patience. I went to a second dentist who knew what was happening and explained everything to me. So, yes, dental issues can arise with fibromyalgia. I'm not sure about cavities though.
