Can anyone recommend a doctor on Long Island?

I think more men have Fibro than they will admit. I also think you need a new doctor. Yours is in the Dark Ages when it comes to Fibro. Fibro is recognized as a disease by the American Medical Association, the American College of Rheumatology, the National Institutes of Health, and the World Health Organization just to name a few.

I have a few suggestions for you. You can see if there is a fibromyalgia support group in your area. It might be in the phone book or possibly calling your local hospital to see if they know. A support group could easily direct you to good Fibro doctors.

Check the phone book under rheumatologists. Look for board certified rheumatologists and if they also are a Diplomate, that is even better. Many times they will list what illnesses they treat so you might find one there. If you see some close by you, check them out at healthgrades.com or vitals.com. You can read reviews there.

i used to live in Babylon, Long Island as a child and we would to into NYC frequently. There are some wonderful teaching hospitals in the city and could really be worth the trip! You could get an excellent doctor who is up on the latest treatments. Here is a list of teaching hospitals. Scan down until you hit New York and there are about 20 of them that you can check out.

Be sure to read Fibro 101...the first thread on the forum. There are links to good info about Fibro and you will learn a lot there. A good starting link for you would be A Thorough Explanation of Fibromyalgia. You just might see yourself there. All of Fibro 101 is good so do read it.

I had read that 20 per cent are men...i know two men that have every symptom but still are not diagnosed with it.

Sherrine gives great advice , find a doctor who understands. My docs wife has fibro..so he is pretty clear on it.

Fibro is complicated to deal with. I have a buddy who has it....so I know. To find a doctor is hard. I recently came across Dr. F.
