Was it hard to get a diagnosis of fibromyalgia?

I saw my internal medicine doctor in the last 6 months and he did some pressure point testing for this
and said I don't have it.

It didn't take long, it was only a few places and nothing more was done. Is that normal? Does it take
someone special or long to find the diagnosis?

So many of the symptoms fit me. Perhaps he was right though.

It takes some testing but, if your doctor knows what to do, it shouldn't take as long as most of us had to go through. First, they don't use the tender point test anymore for fibro because the pain travels and sometimes we might have 11 tender points and other times we might have, let's say 6 tenderpoints. So they don't use that as a diagnostic tool now. Here is a link from the Mayo Clinic about this.

I would suggest you see a good board certified rheumatologist who treats fibro patients. Ask first before you make the appointment. There still are some doctors in the Dark Ages when it comes to this illness. They should run you through a myriad of tests to rule out other illnesses...things like lupus and Lyme disease...because these other illnesses share many of the same symptoms as fibro. If those tests come back negative, then you usually are given the diagnosis of fibromyalgia.

Trigger points are not a requirement for diagnosis, but most Drs are behind in their studies. I have zero trigger points, and have an official diag of fibro. I don't see my "rheumatologist" anymore because he was like your Dr. Poke, poke, poke...no trigger points, no fibro.

I need to find that study about trigger points, but I think it was the video from a good fibro Dr. Anyway, there are several people here with fibro that do not have any TPs.

Oh, he/she was no more "right" than you or I, just like most drs.
