Rushrivergirl: Thanks for the reply. You amaze me with your working FT as a surgical nurse---hats off!
Camping is tricky for me; always has been. For some reason, I never sleep at all outside--it just doesn't happen. And yes, there is a lot of work packing, etc..
I've been working on a 'happy medium' when meeting with friends, as well as attending local fairs. I go for a short while and make sure I either bring a chair, or know where there are benches, etc. available, as my feet often don't cooperate. I like short get-togethers more and more, as I age; key word being 'short.' :)
Booklvr: You raise such an interesting point. It's so true that many of us didn't build a wall. Sometimes, that doggone wall is just plain there!
I, too, have had to cancel some plans because of fibro. Some people understand, but many do not. As I said to Rushrivergirl, the key word for get-togethers in my world is 'short.' Even being somewhere doing something fun for only 1/2 to 1 hour gives us a change of pace.
Last year my husband and I went to a yearly Fall fair in a local town. I happened to be doing better that day, so I went to a used book sale, then walked several blocks to the fair event--and walked more. Probably only a week or so later, there was NO way I could have done all that. But how many non-fibromites understand that? No, they think if we're doing well one day, our problem is completely solved. If only they knew....
For me, it works best to just wait until the day something is going on to see if I'm up to it. I really dislike doing that, but unless there's an extremely important reason for me to be somewhere, I have to play it by ear. I do make it to weekly Mass, but that's a lot of sitting, so not much of a problem there.
Fibro can be such a downer, it's true. I continue to try to find ways to work around the issues, but as you know, it "ain't easy" much of the time. We just have to see what each day brings. That does bug me, too, and I guess we all struggle with that at various levels. I hope we all find all the fibro answers soon.
Thanks for the reply! Wishing you both the best.
