Hi, Mandy, and welcome! Yes, I'm tender when I have to put my head in a sink but it's not as bad as it used to be. Feel at the base of your skull, on each side of your spine. Do you feel a couple of knots that are tender? If so, those are trigger points. I had one in each side that were the size of marbles. I pressed on them and massaged and repeated. Then I left them alone for a few hours and then went back and pressed and massaged again a couple of times. I did this over a few days and those knots got smaller and smaller and I now don't have them anymore.
I used to have trouble turning my head because my neck would hurt but now I have no problem at all. And I get my hair done once a month and can lay back in the sink without terrible pain...and no cushioning either. Our skin is tender in the first place so I expect that. So hopefully this is what is going on with you.
