Hi everyone I am new to this form and I am excited to be able to find some answers to questions. I have had fibromyalgia for a very long time now and have had all the usual symptoms. But since January of this year I have had severe tailbone pain, I have seen several doctors I cannot figure out why. I had back surgery in October and I had to fusions in my lower back, things were going good there I was healing and feeling pretty good until January. That is when this terrible terrible pain has started, I have had injections, I have went back to see my surgeon, I am now scheduled to see an orthopedic specialist. I am just wondering if any of you wonderful people out there have experienced terrible pain with Fibro Thank you. P.s. what things have you tried or the pain that might be helpful for me…. Thank you

Hi, Jazzy, and welcome! I think I’ve had pain just about everywhere on my body. And I have had tailbone pain and it went away on its own. My suggestions would be to buy one of those “donut pillows” and use it so you aren’t putting pressure on the tailbone when you sit. You can find them at the drug store and they really do help. I had to use one at one time and if I went out to lunch with friends, my little donut hole pillow came along with me. 😁. Sitting, when there is inflammation in the area, just aggravates the situation. And this aggravation just makes the pain last longer. I take ibuprofen and Tylenol for pain and those could possibly help too. If you sit in a chair without the donut hole, lean a little forward to take the pressure off the tailbone.

I have sacroiliitis and it literally is a pain in the butt. 😂. I use ibuprofen, Tylenol, and a muscle relaxer called Robaxin to help with pain. The muscle relaxer helps my whole body.

Be sure to read Fibro 101...the first thread on the forum. There are links to good info and you can learn a lot there to help you also.

Thank you so much for the information and the suggestions. I have tried so many things I have had the pillow for quite a while now it helps but not very much like I thought it would. Also I am passed the Tylenol and the ibuprofen I am currently taking Lortab and Lyrica to take the edge off. I also get an occasional shot of Toradol which helps but not for very long I have been a nurse almost my whole life and have treated people for many things, but this is the worst I’ve ever dealt with for myself. I just keep trying to find things that will help, and since my surgery I have a doing the best ever, I have lost 55 pounds and feel good until January. Now which is tailbone pain I feel like I am back in the same rut, so I am back to square one with trying to figure out what will help the most. I have thought about seeing an orthopedic Specialist to see if he has any ideas. Like I said I have had several injections to no avail, the only thing that worked with them was the first injection that causes numbness in the area for only a short time. Again thanks for your input I hope that we are both able to find things that will help us but at this time I am still searching, that is the story of my life. Thanks so much

Do you have hip and glute (butt) pain as well? I get tailbone pain, but it's pain that is radiating from muscle knots in my glutes and not actually in the tailbone. Finding the sore spots and massaging them out (lying on a tennis ball) helps a lot. There are also tender muscle points along the pubic bone that connect to those muscles. I lie (on my stomach this time) on a softer, larger ball (dollar store- softball size) and locate the tender points and let the ball rest there for a bit to release them.

Jazzy, you might want to consider having a therapy massage done. My massage therapist explained to me that there are spa type massages and there are healing type massages.

Mine does the latter on me and it's very helpful to locate where my tight spots are. She helps to release them.

I got tailbone pain when I lost 50 lbs. Sitting or even lying on my back, my tailbone hits whatever I'm on. I tried an injection, but that only made it worse. Don't do it!

I have a car cushion with a cutout - they make them this way - from Wal Mart. It helps some but gets flat too soon and barely thick enough to start with. There are some online too, but expensive. You could make one yourself from some foam from a craft store. Maybe make a couple to leave where you sit and in car.

My doctor warned me to never fall on my butt.

Jazzy and Alice, I just googled “donut ring” and there are quite a few but the one I used was the inflatable donut ring. Walmart is selling them for $9.50 I think. They are like the inflatable rings kids use in the swimming pool but it’s made of thicker and sturdier material. I never had a problem with mine...it didn’t even lose air. They are cheap enough to have one in the house and another one in the car. Just a suggestion.
