inexpensive wheelchair or such?

Does anyone know where I might find an inexpensive wheelchair or such  we could fold and put in the car for shopping, etc?  I know some stores have carts, but not all, especially our local grocery stores.  I talked to my dr. and he said I would have to have an evaluation from a PT before insurance would look at whether they would cover such a thing. Frankly, I've heard too many stories from credible people (friends, relatives) who have gone to PT and ended up getting worse, more sore, etc. I have feet, toes and legs which are VERY sensitive and cramp easily, and I don't want to risk getting more pain and cramping. And all I want is something I can throw in the car for those times I can't walk well--nothing fancy. Where would I find such a thing?  Thanks in advance for any ideas. (By the way, I do keep as active as possible when I'm home, and walk whenever I can!)

Luv, you can check your local medical supply places.  They usually carry them.  The lightweight ones, though, don't have the larger wheel so you will have to use your feet anyway.  You may want to check the newspaper for anyone selling a wheelchair.  You could get it cheaper.

Here is a link to ultra light wheelchair and, as you can see, even though it has the larger wheel, it is more than double the price.  As I said above, I'd go to a medical supply store, see if they know where you could get a used one.  I had one and gave it to my mother's nursing home when she passed on.  So, there are some out there.  You just have to look.  They wouldn't be so expensive for you either.

Costco carries a portable chair that you can order online for between $100 - $220.00.

In addition, there are local charitable organizations, like the Multiple Sclerosis society, that help people get chairs either for free or a much lower amount than costs in a store. You do not even have to have the same disease that the organization supports. These are usually used chairs but in fine shape.

Sometimes people drop chairs off at thrift stores.

I commend you on shpping for a chair. Since I have aquired my power whell chair, I have gotten more exercise than I have in years. YOu do not have to justify your reasons for getting one to anybody. Do not believe the myth that your life is going downhill, when exactly the opposite will probably be true.

Mobility aids are meant to help people. I am grateful that we have them.
