sensitivity to otc cold medications?

I used to take nyquil whenever I had a cold. after I got sick with fibro, I noticed that nyquil didn't have the same effect on me like it used to. all the sudden instead of making me sleep, I would be up with twitchy legs all night long. it would make the RLS go out of control.

I think I must forget this little fact every single year because it seems like at the beginning of every cold season I catch a cold and then because I am miserable I take some kind of otc medication. and then I am up all night long. I came down with a cold and after work yesterday I came home and took something I found in my husband's medicine chest. "theraflu warming night time severe cold medicine". and yes, you guessed it, I was up all night twitching my legs just aching. miserable. I want to cry on nights like these...my nose wasn't running, but I sure wasn't getting the sleep I needed to get through my work today. I think I managed two 20 minute naps in the last 10 hours.

I have learned my yearly lesson about taking this stuff, I'll go back to not being able to breathe, and hopefully get a few winks in. has anyone else started having problems with otc's they used to be able to take?

Yep, benadryl use to knock me out and a few years ago I took it for an allergy and the more I took the more hyped I got. I don't take any OTC meds anymore without consulting doc office. For one thing you never know how they are going to react to meds your already on. Your pharmacist can be a big help with this also.
