I"ve been diagnosed with fibro - but have not been able to tolerate the neurotin that the doctor had me on.  Lately an old injury to the feet has really been flaring up - the heels of my feet hurt and are sometimes numb.  But where I previously tore all the tendons and muscles and years later broke my foot - is now so tender I find it difficult walking.

I believe fibro loves old injuries and osteoarthritis. I broke a bone in my foot years ago and when fibro gets bad it hurts and I never felt a thing from it for years. I have osteoarthritis in my neck, lower back and hands and when the fibro flares it makes the pain in those areas much worse. Okay, my hands are the biggest source of pain for me whether the fibro is flaring or not the arthritis is getting so bad. Since I didn't have the arthritis in my hands when I got fibro I don't know if it would feel better without the fibro or not. Sadly, I can't take celebrex and other things for the arthritis.

I have a place that is on the inside of my wrist that also flares and is extremely painful when it does - but daily I deal with a numbness in the pads of the palms of my hands.  It is really more frustrating than anything else.  Thanks for the verification that this is probably part of the fibro!

Hi tired-

I have arthritis in my neck and like Marlee said, fibro loves the weak spots! I had to go on Prednisone for a week this past spring when the fibro first hit. The pain in my neck was SO bad! That took care of my neck pain but did not notice any difference with the fibro pain.

I took a blow to the back of my head and neck and the pain is always throughout my neck and then I get the other fibro coming and going on top.  sue2z confused confused

Is it typical for a flare to last 3 months?

It's possible. The life expectancy of a flare is really hard to determine. Some people have as few as a couple to 3 days, others have longer ones. Mine have usually been short, but not this current one. I've pretty much been in a constant flare since I went in for an unexpected surgery in late June. I'm hoping that it tames down before the cold of winter hits here since those are usually my worst months. I'm hoping that I don't get to go through the rest of the year in one reallllly long one. But, if it does, so be it. It's not like I have much say about it. Just gotta roll with it.

Yeah - I have learned that it is something that we have to learn to live with. I usually take it pretty well - but my son is getting married Oct 18th and I have been so busy that it has really put a damper on the planning... I would love to have to just be able to enjoy and not to hobble along like a little old lady - I turn 50 this spring and my 73 year old mother seems to be able to run circles around me... Thanks so much for your input!

Doesn't it just bite you that they can sometimes out do you? I have friends that are several years older and they're hauling around in ways that I can't anymore. And it seems that I'm either not the only all nighter, or else you're an early riser. Me...I'm the first. I'm actually at work still. I'm off in about an hour. ;-)

My problem is that I end up being an all nighter and an early riser hehehehe - bed at about 12 and up by 4:45....

Usually for me it's in bed about 2 hours after I get off work, and up about 5-6 hours later. I rarely get more than about 6 hours a night. Once in a great while I get to sleep in without my body objecting. But hey, the sleep deprivation helps with trying to get things done. I have more hours to try and be productive in. *This is me trying to put a positive spin on everything*

I have an old back injury, well, it's where I had back surgery and I get sciatica sometimes in that area and shooting down my leg. But as for the fibro, it hits in my legs and feet and it is a different kind of pain other than the sciatic pain. My fibro hurts everyday, but the Lyrica and Percocet do a good job, I have to say.

I find that old injuries do flare uo espcilaly during the cold months, i hav had surgery on both knees, nd they hurt almost always, especially walking up and downstairs. and my back hurts due to arthritus, so i dont know if its fibro or not, may just be arthritis as it does feel worse in the cold. I broke my big toe too, and it hurts in the winter.
