Southwest anyone?

I was just wondering if anyone here is from the southwest, New Mexico, Arizona, Texas, etc.

My hubby and I are considering moving to the southwest when he retires and I was just wondering if anyone here is from the there.  Also, have you taken vacations to areas that are hot and humid or really cold and did it make a difference in how you felt.  Do you think the heat and lack of humidity help to make you feel better?

We are thinking about taking a trip to New Mexico either next yr. or the yr. after to look at some retirement communities that we have gotten info on.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Gamma, I haven't been to that part of the US since having fibro but have had the same thoughts. I would never move to that area cause it is too far from the rest of the family. I do love the southwest.

 

We don't seem to have people on here from the desert states.

The weather in Arizona allows me to function. I love the dry heat- humidity kills me. I lived here for about 6 years before the "humidity" started to affect me. I love the weather here, even when it's 110. Since moving here, I've had much less pain and more energy on a daily basis. I rarely have flares due to the weather anymore. We have about 2 weeks of real cold weather (20 at night, 50's during the day) so I hardly ever have to wear heavy, bulky clothing. If you need to see snow, you can drive a few hours to a mountain and get your fill then go home.

But...

Before you plan a trip or move here, read about Valley Fever. Contrary to what you may read, not everyone that gets it recovers easily. You do not become immune, you have it for life and it can flare up again when your immune system gets run down. It left me with a nodule in my lung that needs to be x-rayed every 6 months to check for changes. It took me 6 months to "recover" from the first bout and I've had 2 flares since.
