Awhile back I tried to search to find some fibro support groups near where I live. I thought I had hit the jackpot when I found a listing for a support group that was located less than 10 minutes from my house. I had put off calling there for weeks and I finally got around to calling today and was informed that group hadn't been around for over 5 years. I asked them if they knew of any other groups in the area and they had no information for me on that. Through my own searching I haven't been able to find any other support groups located within a reasonable distance.

I know it's not the end of the world, I've still got you guys and I'm grateful for that. Just feeling frustrated and disappointed because a live support group probably would've done me good since I'm so isolated most of the time.

Hi Kythe,

I am so sorry for your disappointment. Maybe you could put the word out and find some other people with fibro in your area and start your own support group. Do some information seeking on the internet on that. There must be something out there to teach you how to start your own group.

Hi Kythe-

I did the same thing as you when my fibro hit. I looked for a support group within my area and came up with nothing- The closest one was "miles" away and I was so sick I could not drive at the time.

Like Karen said, maybe some research and then start your own? I live in a suburb and have all the conveniences possible- but still will feel isolated when I am not getting out.

*sighs* I don't think I could handle starting my own group. It's just too much responsibility and I'm really not a leader kind of person. I know in the past I tried to start internet groups about various subjects that interested me and it was too much for me and I ended up abandoning them leaving them unmoderated to run wild on their own.

Just thanks for making the suggestion gently though. I had a therapist once who was a very intense and forceful woman and there was this one time that she all but demanded that I start my own book club because there weren't any available for the kind of books that I like to read. She ended up sending me into a panic attack over it. I guess I'm just not a social person by nature and have social anxiety issues so I'd really need someone else to be in charge of a group. I'm the sort of person that probably wouldn't want to even talk much at all until I had gotten to know everyone better which isn't a good quality in a group leader. lol I guess you wouldn't realize it because I post a fair amount online, but I'm really a very shy person in real life. The internet tends to be easier because of the anonymity.

I think I'll just keep searching and maybe ask my rheumatologist if he knows of anything.

I am like you. I wouldn't be able to start a group. I probably wouldn't even go. But on the internet it is much easier to talk, like you said because of it being anonymous. It is much easier to talk I think.

There is a new girl in Krissy's vet office and she and her mother both have fibro. She is just starting to have symptoms and her mother has had it for years. I gave her my phone no and told her I belong to a great online support group if they were interested. I would like to meet her mother and share but I really don't think I would get anymore out of a live support group than I do on here. I couldn't set in a live support group in my pjs and robe like I do on here every morning. turn

I couldn't agree with you more Marlee. this is a wonderful group of people and I think we are all so fortunate to have found eachother.

I agree completely!  I don't know what I would do without my fibro family, you all are so wonderful and have helped me immensly.
