I noticed that several people have sensitivities to light and sound, etc... It especially disturbs sleep.
Kythe, you were one who mentioned it.
I have 2 children with Sensory Integration Disorder (SID). It means that their brain doesn't process the input from their senses correctly. They are easily overwhelmed and get sensory overload a lot.
Sound like any of us? I am very much that way.
Kids with SID are treated with brushing therapy. A very soft brush, like a non-soaped surgical scrub brush, is used in a certain pattern over the body. You have to be trained how to do this b/c if you brush in circles, or on certain parts of the body like the abdomen, you can cause MAJOR problems.
Done correctly, brushing therapy retrains the brain to process sensory input. I have done it on myself since I was taught it by my son's Occupational Therapist. It has helped me tremendously.
There is a book called "The Out of Sync Child" by Carol Kranowitz that explains SID and how to treat it. It might help some of us understand and cope with these sensitivities. I know it helped me.
If you are interested, you will need an Occupational Therapist (OT) to teach you the brushing therapy. It is very powerful, but totally non-invasive and non medicated. (Not saying medication is bad, not at all, jsut that this is not a medicine) Once you learn the technique of brushing, you only have to buy the brush (very inexpensive) and treat yourself.
Just a thought.
