Well, I'm new here and need to find out alot of stuff. My wife has fibro

(recently confirmed diagnosis by excluding everything else) and won't get on the computer much let alone to join a forum. My goal is to make her life somewhat normal but seem to have a hard time motivating. No affordable swimming in our area, support groups I've found are an hour away. We are about an hour south of Chicago and I need more info ! Look forward to searching the archives and hearing from you all.

I am so sorry to hear that your wife has fibro. We have a thread called fibro101. It is the second thread on the first page. It has a ton of information on it. I hope that you check it out. Maybe eventually she will too. You can also print off of it and give her something to read.

I wish you the best. So glad that you have joined. Feel free to post on any thread. There are a bunch of wonderful members on here.

Best wishes for a wonderful day. You are so wonderful to look up information about fibro to help your wife. She is a lucky woman.

Hi Ilhubby and welcome. I hope your wife will change her mind when you see how nice we are. smilewinkgrin Is your wife depressed from the dx of fibro??? That is common til we learn to accept this DD. It's hard to have your life change so much and have to learn to live a different way than your use to. This is a great place to learn and we are always here for each other during the good and bad times.

 

I'm further south of Chicago than you are by about an hour.

hi and welcome, ilhubby! i am so sorry that your wife has fibro, but you have found a great place chocked full of useful information and wonderful, helpful people. please feel free to ask any questions-there are so many knowledgeable people here who are more than happy to help in anyway that they can.

kudos to you, by the way, for taking the time to come get info for your wife. having a supportive person is so important to us fibromites and you are doing a wonderful thing for your wife by being willing to come here and find info on your own. hopefully you can get her to join us sometime, too:)

Hi, Hubby, and welcome!  You have already been given good advice.  It's a shame she won't get on the computer.  I used to be just like that but finally learned and sure don't know what I'd do without it.

 

Maybe you can get a comfy chair for her and have her sit by you while you are on the forum.  She can "ask" questions that way.  Who knows?  Maybe she'll decide to come on herself!  It's worth a shot.

 

Don't hesitate to ask questions.  That's what we are here for.  I hope she is feeling better soon.

Just like your wife, I was also recently diagnosed with Fibro and am still learning. I learned a lot just from hearing from everyone else on the forum, as you will also I'm sure if you stick around!

I am sorry about your wife, but I must say as well that she is very lucky to have a husband who is trying to find out so much about the condition in order for your lives to run smoothly. My husband is having a tough time understanding everything...

I won't lie, things will change now.. I know my life dramatically has changed and still is.. but I guess it's what we make of it and you must know that attitude is everything.. make sure your wife knows that and that she is keeping a good attitude throughout all these hard times... (I know I should take my own advice.. lol)

You joined the right forum smilewinkgrin ...

Welcome ILHubby,

Sounds like we might live pretty close to each other. It is great that you want to help your wife so much. Hopefully once she accepts and starts to learn about Fibro, she will feel better.

I started researching everything on the computer so I could learn more about it and also get some ideas on how to cope. Joining this board was the best thing I did. I hope your wife will one day feel like joining us.

Her doctor may have some good advice about water aerobics or maybe support groups that are close by. If you have insurance, I've heard that if your doc writes a prescription for water therapy then your insurance will pay part of cost.

I wish you luck & tell your wife that we look forward to the day she feels she can join us. Feel free to ask questions or jump in anytime. That's what we are all here for. You'll find the people here are great & very understanding.

Thanks all for the info. and welcome. She is not too fond of the hugs given by some but in this case she said it was ok. HA ! If there is anyone in the the K3 area feel free to Pm and we can get together for some coffee.

After a quick look I realized that we don't have the PM function on this board ;) so I updated our contact info. Feel free to drop us a line if your near Kankakee / Iroquois County Ill. I have just recently started the paperwork for her disability stuff. One income is not easy with all the insurance bills. At least we have insurance. She was a stylist prior to staying home so not doing alot during the day is driving her nuts, not to mention the pain etc... You all know what she's going through better than I do.

Chris Your wife is so lucky to have you. Not very meany husband are willing to help out there wifes . Most just say take a pill and get over it. I stand up and applaude you. She has found gold in you. My husband is the same way he is right there when I am sick. he goes to my Dr appointments and every thing.

 

 

   Keep up the good work.

 

 As far as SSD goes collect all her dr reports all blood work and any thing that will prover she can not do any kind of work. It may be a long fight mine was 3 years. I had to get a lawyer and go to court.

Hi IL Hubby and Welcome-

When the fibro hit me it hit hard and with it came severe depression, fatigue and pain like I had never felt before! I thought my life was over. To walk 15 feet was like walking 5 miles. I could not do anything. I couldn't even wash a pan! With time, support from family, friends, and this group, a good Dr., and medication, I have my life back.

I understand how staying home and not being able to do much is driving her crazy- I am a single mom who was working a fulltime job going at Mach 5 all the time. Then not being able to do anything was quite an adjustment. The group here would offer many suggestions on what to do when they knew I could not do much. It really helped.

I think it is great that you are trying to do whatever you can to help and educate yourself about this- she's blessed to have you.
