Chairs for preparing food in the kitchen

I know I don't post often, but I work full time, and I am so exhausted, well I don't want to make excuse, but I do check in with you guys because frankly, you are the experts at what works and what doesn't in my opinion, and I am so thankful that you are here with your wisdom.

 

For Christmas, I cooked and it's the first time I really enjoyed cooking in a while.  I wasn't on my feet, I got my computer chair which is on wheels and removed my rug from in front of sink, and I just rocked and rolled in my kitchen.

 

My question is, does anyone know of any types of special chairs that may be on wheels for cooking in the kitchen? 

 

My chair is rather large and I have a galley kitchen, so before I go buy a smaller office chair, I thought I would check with the "experts".

I do the EXACT same thing!! I use my office chair and roll around the house in it!  If my neighbours saw me through the windows they'd wonder if I needed a trip to the loony bin....

 

My husband took off the old plastic rollers on my office chair and replaced them with small rubber wheels. They offer more control, they're quieter and totally safe for hardwood and tile floors. No scratching.  He got them at an office furniture store. They weren't cheap, but I think worth every penny. 

 

As far as getting good support in a chair, I'm out of ideas. My office chair is pretty basic, but still comfortable enough. I'd love to find one with really good lumbar support.  Is that what you're looking for too?

Deb, I love the idea of a kitchen chair on wheels. My kitchen is so small I don't need it but I have a few friends that could use one.

Ginny, I'll also tell them about changing wheels so you don't scratch the floor.

I have a small armless office chair at work, it really doesn't offer any support. Sometimes I sit in it backwards and lean my chest on the backrest. It's more comfortable this way.

This is an interesting idea, but I get to going so fast on my feet, I just might smack my face into a wall :)  I use my grandmother's old step ladder retro chair and it helps a lot if I'm exhausted and trying to get the inside chores done.

What a great idea! I need something like that. Maybe I'll have my husband fix something up for me. I think a nice comfy barstool would work if it had a nice supportive back. The legs could be taken down to the right height before putting the rollers on.

I've never seen anything like it, so will just have to make do with whatever works. Thanks for the great idea. It will really help me!

I haven't resorted to a chair in the kitchen...yet. But then, this flare has been so bad this fall, that I haven't really cooked much either. Cheerios Supreme has been on the menu alot lately. (pick any cereal, add milk and call it "Whatever" Supreme!)

I did buy a kitchen floor/mat from Wally World that is padded. I keep it under the butcher block and slide it out whenever I'm going to be doing any amount of prep work there.

I bought a cheap office chair at Walmart with no arms on it but it doesn't have much back support either if that is an issue. It goes up and down to different heights. I haven't used it in quite awhile but the purpose was so I could pick stuff up off the floor and dust tables without bending over constantly since that is a problem for my back. I also put rollers on the coffee table in the family room so I could move it easy. The end tables in here may be next to get rollers, they are old so it really doesn't matter what I do to them. The easier things are to move for me to clean under the better.

 

I'm also a big fan of the "moving men" things you put under furniture to move it.
