Hi! I just read the list of fibro symptoms and now i'm like totally thinking that this is what i may be experiencing. I've recently started having aches in my fingers, feet, just really weird places that they usually wouldn't occur in, anxiety has set in, headaches, heartburn (but they say its from the pain meds from dental surgery but it still hasnt went away), fatigue, trouble concentrating, and a few more. I was reading about it on webmd but i didnt fit the age group because i'm only 22, but could this be whats troubling me? idea

hi and welcome, mizzb!

it is quite possible that what you're feeling is fibro-have you gone through the list of symptoms? it is a great list when it comes to really narrowing down your symptoms. as for your age, unfortunately we have several people here around that age (not unfortuante that they're here-they are super lovely people :-) just unfortunate to see so many so young dealing with this dd :( )

i would definitely suggest talking to your dr. if you have a good one, or finding a good one if you don't. also, check out the fibro 101 thread up top-that has so much great information! also, keep coming here and asking questions. you will find so many friendly and knowledgeable people who are ready and willing to welcome you into the family and help you in any way they can.

Thanks i feel so welcomed, yes that was a great list of symptoms...very informative.....i have an appointment with my dr. next month to follow up with the heartburn problem but i will make sure to mention it hopefully she listens and doesnt just blow it off since the symptoms havent been occuring that long!

well, you'll probably have to be tested for a million and one other things before you get a fibro diagnosis since there are so many other diseases with similar symptoms, but if they all come back clear, you could very well end up with a fibro diagnosis. it is also my understanding that to get a fibro dx you have to have at least 11 of the 18 tender spots, but i might be wrong about that one.

no matter what happens, i wish you the best of luck at your dr.'s appointment and hope you get to feeling better soon!

Welcome to our Fibro Family!

Some of what you have described does sound like Fibromyalgia, but there are other dd's out there with symptoms that are almost the same. You need to see your doctor so tests can be ran to rule out anything else. Usually your doctor will refer you to a Rheumatologist later. As SleepyBug pointed out, there is some interesting information on the 2nd thread from the top called Fibro 101.

All you can do is make an appt. with your doctor and go from there. Hopefully your doctor is one who is familiar with Fibro. For my 1st visit to the doctor, I took a list of all of my symptoms. I even wrote down small things that I didn't think would matter. Some times we get to see the doctor and forget half of what we have been experiencing. This way you will already have it down on paper and you can just hand it to him. I also wrote down on another sheet of paper all the questions I wanted to ask.

As far as your age, as SleepyBug said we have others here on the forum that are young, even younger than you are. It's the same as the symptoms...not everyone will have the same symptoms and I guess it is hard to pinpoint the age. I think they are just saying that most affected with Fibro are that age group.

Yea ur right about the 11 of 18, I saw a diagram and I can relate with the points on the arms, chest, neck and back, would my mother and father having arthritis be apart of my pain also?

Yes, don't think about the whole age factor, I am only 21 and was just diagnosed with Fibro! There are others, like Springfling said, younger than you and me...

Good luck with getting it diagnosed... some go down a very long path of tests in order to be dx'd with Fibro, however, it only took me 2 trips to the doctor!!

Hi there,
You have gotten some great advice. From my experience with the long process of getting a diagnosis...it is very important to take your list of symptoms to your Dr. This has also proven to be a great method of seeing if your Dr. will be of help or not. If she pays no attention to your list, then it is time to seek out a doc that will.
I still keep a pain and symptom journal on a daily basis. This way when it is time to see my rheumatologist, I summarize what I logged in my journal. It does help to keep track of what you are eating to help identify certain foods that may set off flare ups for you.

Hi, I know sometimes the age thing can be deceiving. I am only 21 as well, and have had fibro for 5 years. Often times I think "I am way too young to have this!", but tests keep ruling out every other disease so I am stuck with this for now. Have you been put on any medication before? I want you to know that you can still live a healthy normal life with this DD. physical activity,nutrition, and the right meds are key to functioning normally.
