refer saint charles dr. for pain of fibromylogia

I need a Dr. who will give me something more than Ultram for my Fibromyolgia

the pain and fatigue is starting to interfer with my job. If I ask about

any type of narcotic he just shakes his head and says I cant give you

something stronger because that means you are building up a tolerance

to it,

 I DO need something stronger and Ive tried alot of antidepressants

they all have not help with pain just have had bad side effects.

Does anyone know of a Dr. who will listen and not affraid to treat my pain.

I know vicoden does work because I had it before but cant seem to find

a doctor who will prescribe it. Any Help

You will need to learn to cope with the pain to some degree for the rest of your life. Also, if you would take an SSRI (antidepressant) for a few months you will find that it DOES help with the pain. You need to let it do it's job. Fibros are deficient in serotonin and by taking an SSRI you will increase your available amount in your brain. Serotonin regulates mood, pain tolerance, sleep cycles and a bunch of other stuff that we have trouble with. Pain meds alone can't be used to treat this condition.

As MT Lady said, a pain clinic will probably give you some tools to cope with the pain... But they wont' remove it... just help you learn to live with it. Sorry.. but this is the way life goes with fibro.

By the way, Ultram is a synthetic narcotic and can be very habit forming. It binds to the opioid receptors in the brain just like morphine. Your doctor has to be very careful about what he prescribes because the AMA and the FDA are all over the doctors to prescribe less narcotics.
