I heard that this was a new drug approved by the FDA for Fibro... I was wondering if any of you had heard of it or anything... although, its not expected to be in pharmacies until March.. I just read about it being announced!
This is what I read:
FDA Approves Savella for Fibromyalgia January, 2009
Savella (milnacipran hydrochloride) has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to treat fibromyalgia, a chronic condition characterized by restricted movement and widespread pain, makers Forest Labs and Cypress Bioscience announced.
The safety and effectiveness of the drug, a selective serotonin and norepinephrine dual reuptake inhibitor, were established in clinical trials involving 2,084 patients. In a news release, the drug’s makers said it’s not known exactly how Savella improves symptoms of fibromyalgia, which some scientists believe is related to abnormalities in certain brain neurotransmitters.
As many as 6 million Americans have fibromyalgia, making it the second-most common condition diagnosed in rheumatology clinics behind osteoarthritis, the companies said. There is no cure.
Savella is expected in pharmacies by March.
Common side effects reported during clinical testing included constipation, hot flushes, vomiting, heart palpitations, dry mouth, and a rise in blood pressure
Any thoughts?
What about switching? For example, I take Lyrica. I believe it has caused weight gain..It helps some, but not as much as I wish..should I consider switching like in the summer when I dont have school or anything going on? Plus, I must consider that I've been on Lyrica for over a year..but Im worried about how long I can stay on it at the same time... There was shown more tolerance of Savella.. and I didnt read anything about weight gain, which is good. This makes me wonder and question though... We shall wait and see if anyone on here will take it/or does take it.... honestly, this is the first time I've heard of it so... thoughts?
