Hey all,

In an earlier post I said I was going to be taking oxymatrine, well I have been for 4 days and yesterday I woke up and hit a wall.  My doc did say I would probably have a flare. sad    I am not to bad this am but I have been noticing my hot flashes are coming back.  I wonder if they are really just fever spikes. 

Does anyone know if their FM was brought on by a virus only?  I think my was but also triggered maybe by my abortion I had that was very tramatic to me 12 yrs ago.  I've had such crazy symptoms on and off of bladder probs, excruciating headaches, night sweats and such since then.

Fibromyalgia being caused by a virus is one school of thought but there are many schools of thought being bantered about right now.  But, at least they are trying to figure out this illness.  I think they'll find an answer one of these days.

I picked up a virus before the fm started, but I was also under a lot of stress back then, so I am not really sure what caused it.

i, too, had a virus (and bell's palsy) before my fm started. then again, i also had injuries from a car accident, major surgery (c-sections), and a history of abuse, which are all causes "they" have kicked around, so who knows? i do hope a definitive cause can be determined some day soon..then maybe they can find a cure, too!

I've had every test in the book and the levels of the coxsakie virus,stage 3 & 4 is a concern for my doc and the cycomeglo...(sp?) virus is high. Anyways if that means anything.....I just know I feel like crap just about everyday.

i got my fibro from mono. i had the mono, and right after it, I got the fibro. that's what my doctor says it's from too.

Lori, I have done some reading on Oxymatrine, but I am not sure if I understand how this med helps. Can you tell me about the med, how it helps you, and why your doc thought it might cause a flare? Thank you!

My wife thinks that my Firbro hit because I had a bad bout with Salmonella about six months before my FM symptoms appeared...

I did not have a virus before getting fibro that I know of but I sure had plenty of stress and anxiety.

I think its caused by a virus,it makes the most sence to me.Cause you can only treat the symptoms....

Sera Smiles....My doc is an infectious disease doctor and I was referred by my rhueme, but the oxymatrine is suppose to be an herb that is more common in other parts of the world to help work with your immune system to better fight the virus or viruses that has invaded your body. As for the flare, he has had other patientss that use it with great success, your body may react first to the herb properties that "help balance" out you immune system. I thought, well I have used lots of chemical drugs in the bod, it won't break my bank so I will give it a try.

I was told that my Fibromyalgia was caused from a abscess I had right after a total abdominal hysterectomy in July 08'.I also had a severe reaction to Levaquin in Augestof 08' So not sure exactly what caused the Fibromyalgia and Psoriatic Arthritis that I have now. I am leaning toward the reaction to Levaquin due to the fact that since then my entire body is so screwed up and so far all of the DR's are totally lost about how to fix it.I was told I am a medical mystery(talk about getting the warm and fuzzy feeling NOT).

I got fibro after mono they also think that is what triggered mine.
