Monica,
I don't know what state you live in, but I know that a lot of docs in CA do that. My former GP in CA did it on a case by case basis, although he never asked me to sign anything. BTW-my rheumy never Rxd pain meds. I had to get them from my GP. I totally understand why you feel insulted, but there are a lot of docs who are afraid of being accused of over prescribing pain meds.
This is just MY opinion, but I think if doctors were a little more educated about
pain meds and how everyone's pain tolerance is different, people like me wouldn't be walking around in agony. BTW-if you didn't know this, I am a recovering addict, and even though I have over 12 years sober, see a counselor that helps with my recovery, and see ANOTHER therapist for other issues, every doctor thinks that if they give me a narcotic, I'm gonna immediately abuse them. I've had dentists that have shown more intelligence when it comes to pain control (sorry about
your dry sockets, BTW).
Sorry for the rant, but I am sick and tired of being punished for past indiscretions. I'd be more than willing to take drug tests, sign letters, or give them my right arm-I just want to have some pain relief!
