Has anyone had Weight Loss Surgery with Fibro?

Has anyone gone thru weight loss surgery with Fibro? Has it made any improvement?

I will be having VSG (Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy) which is a weight loss surgery. I know that most of the time it really doesn't help actual fibro, but with the weight loss, it should be better on my joints in general.

I haven't had surgery yet, but I have asked my dr. about lap band surgery. I also hope it can help my joints. Let me know how things go for you. Good luck Diane

I haven't had any surgery since fibro, knock on wood. One of my DILs had gastric bypass, it will be 2 yrs in June, and she has lost half of her body weight. She doesn't have fibro but her energy level is amazing now. I would think the lap band would be easier on the body, she didn't qualify for that.

 

I wish you luck Monica. I would think the more extra weight you have to carry around the harder it would be with fibro.

I recover too slowly from surgery and will not have any elective ones performed. The pain I feel after surgery is worse than most others do.

I have a friend who did have the surgery and she looks great.

I just exercise, exercise, exercise, exercise...

Yeah I know, a broken record.

My main thing is that I know Fibro won't go away but this extra weight I've gained on top of an already over weight frame, my body is breaking down fast. If I can elevate some of the pain on my joints...I think it's a good thing. I know its going to be more painful than others to re-coup but to me I still think its worth it.  turn

I did have my gallbladder removed since I've had Fibro. I don't recall any extra pain, but it did take me six months to recover from the anesthesia. Let us know how your surgery goes, hopegirl. Diane
