Newbie

I am new here and thought that after creeping for the last couple weeks I would introduce myself.

I was diagnosed with fibro approximately a month ago, but have been suffering with the symptoms for much longer. It wasn't until I went to see a headache specialist for my migraines that he suggested I might have Fibro. Since then it has been confirmed that this has been what has been causing all my problems.

Since then I was started on Cymbalta. I honestly don't know if it is actually helping at all. For me it is hard to discern what is a symptom of Fibro and what is just normal. I really can't remember a time when I didn't live with some sort of pain or annoyance.

Lately I've been having a real problem sleeping. This has always been an issue for me, but it has gotten much worse over the last couple weeks. I am not able to fall asleep till about one or two and then I wake up 5 or 6 times a night. I spoke with my doctor and he is going to start me on Trazodone. I really hope it helps. I can't afford to be as tired as I am. I am working full time and going to school full time, so it is really important to get a good nights sleep.

Well I guess that is it for now. I am very happy that I found a place where I am understood. My whole life I've just been told I'm a hypochondriac and it is all in my head. It's nice to finally know that isn't true.

Chauncy, Welcome to the forum, it is nice to have somewhere to go where everybody knows & understands what you are going through.  (Now, I have the song from "Cheers" running through my head.  LOL)  It is so hard to live each day with no validation that what you are experiencing is real.  You will find so much here, caring, concern, friends, information, knowledge & much more.  Come often as you can, you certainly have alot on your plate.  I hope you find the right meds to allow you to sleep.  I use Flexeril & Melatonin.  I get quite abit of sleep now, so if I am not flaring I do ok.  Take care, hugs, Denise

I am new too, but have been lurking for quite a while now.  What kind of schooling are you doing?  I want to start LPN school in two years (then my 3 year old will start school).  I look forward to hearing more about you, and this is all there is about me.

I have had pain for about a year, which started in my back.  I went to my Dr. and he told me to go for a ct scan of my back and kidneys.  Of course that came up negative.  Following that it seemed to spread like wild fire....  To make a long story short, I finally got sent to a rheumatologist last week who confirmed I have fibro.  It has been a hard and bumpy road, but at least I have a dx now!  How do we go on living is what I want to know?  I'll be glad of the day, I wake up and feel free of pain and fatigue, without the aid of drugs.  I know wishful thinking, huh?  Oh well, if I don't have dreams what do I have?

Welcome!!! I'm glad you found us. This is a great site for support and encouragement. I honestly do believe that unfortunately, unless you have fibro, you never really understand all that comes with it. That all in the head thing...sometimes you get mad, sometime you just roll your eyes and say . I also like the "you just don't have a high tolerance for pain" That is what makes this place so special, everyone here understands and nobody judges. I too am questioning if Cymbalta is doing anything for me. I hope that the trazodone helps you get some much needed sleep!!!
