I've read different places about what the top 7 foods not to eat with Fibro and then I'll read in another article that you should have Vitamin D and Tomatoes....

So, what is a good diet for fibromyalgia?

You might want to check out the book "food that helps win the battle against Fibromyalgia". Second, tomatoes are a trigger for some with fibro, not all. It is a nightshade veggie, along with potatoes, eggplant and a couple other. N0ot all people with fibro are bothered by these but some are. This book covers just about everything when it comes to the right foods for people w/ fibro. It also has really yummy recipes that are easy to make. It has lists of the best and worst foods for people. Hope this helps. have a pain free night.

Tomatoes don't seem to bother my fibro much, but they do upset my GERD terribly, so I don't eat them much. (Same with onions and green peppers)

The foods that do make my fibro worse are anything with caffeine, sugar, or grease. If I eat or drink any of these things, I will feel like I got hit by a bus within an hour or so.

Wow I had never heard of another person who reacts badly to grease. I have always had problems with any grease, salad dressing, meat, you name it. No trans fat for me since I was a kid. Good to know I am not coocoo on this at least.

ACCK!!! shocked No tomatoes??? I think that would about kill me, not to have tomatoes!!! shakehead   I'm Italian!!!  What's an Italian w/o tomatoes?!?!?!

When I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia a year or so ago, the doctors said there is no connection between fibro and diet.  Are my docs out of touch?  Is diet proven to be an issue in regard to fibro?

Hi songbird and welcome,

Along with all the symptoms of fibro diet too is very different for many. As noted nightshade veggies cause many woes in some. A gal that posted here for awhile claims to me that she has eliminated 90% of her pain for many months by eliminating nightshades.

Also a big consideration is white flour, sugar etc. Any foods that cause ups and downs in our metabolism are bound to cause stress. These foods are toxic to the non-fibro body and my feeling is we are ultra sensitive to everything.

My motto is everything in mild moderation. I try very hard to have a well rounded diet. I was just on vacation and ate things I rarely eat, ex. more beef than I should. Well my pain went nuts and I just wonder if it is somehow related to the change in diet.

AS for the doctors mine personally feels diet may be a huge factor and believes fibro is an allergic reaction to many things. BUT who really knows.

I don't find that my fibro is aggravated by any food in particular, but it is aggravated  by over-eating or eating a "heavy" diet (read - too much junk food).  I feel much better if I eat lighter and try to eat a healthier diet. 

 

I do find, though, that carbs and chocolate seem to help me feel better (I think they boost seratonin).  I just try (TRY is the operative word here) to eat healthy carbs and stick with a small amount of dark chocolate. My favorite is the little Dove dark chocolate squares.  I can eat just one or two and feel satisfied.  Now doctors are saying that a small amount of dark chocolate daily is good for you.  (I knew that all along devil )

Well I definitely have days when all I want to do is carb-load! yeah

I now have to eat 5-6 small meals instead of 2-3 larger ones, since my gastroparesis diagnosis, so it will be interesting to see what affect that has on my fibro!

Hi Songbird and welcome. I also have gastroparesis. I cut out most dense meats probably a year and a half ago and it has been much better. I eat fish and some ground beef and that's about it for meat. Of course I don't eat any raw veggies. I'm a carbaholic too partly due to some meds I take but they are also easier to digest.

Thanks, Marlee. I needed those hugs! The GP diagnosis has really thrown me for a loop. All those fresh veggies and whole grains I was eating to stay healthy were apparently causing so many problems! It's really discouraging. It's only been a few days so I am still trying to sort it all out. I appreciate your input very much.

 hi every one

 mt computer crashed and so i have to go to the libaray now to chat with you guys. grease gets my stomach going every time i eat it and my boyfriends dad that lives with us only cooks with it.    i am glad that i got on here today cause i am actually going to check out some books on fibro diet so the any books that you have read and have good please let me know i am going to put it on the forum page so response or email me at spunky molly at hot mail dot com.   thanks guys   oh welcome the the new peeps....this is my sanity most days and if you be good to the peolpe in here you will learn alot.

Most fruit and veggies don't bother me, or meat, but dairy will make me miserable for days. On days that I can eat, I eat LOL It may be one real meal a wk, so I'm going to get the most out of it

I can't be much help with the diet thing- just trying to figure out things on this end too! I have not noticed any real problems with food, except maybe grease. That could be my age also, as I have gotten older greasy foods have started to bother me more. 

Welcome Songbird! I too have had fibro for about a year now, what an adventure, huh?

You both have come to a great place for support- I think you will love the group, they have been a godsend for me-

LOL Well "adventure" is not the first word I think of to describe fibro, but okay - I guess that's one way of looking at it!

I am very happy to have found this place. I have been welcomed with open arms. And it is so nice to talk to people who actually UNDERSTAND.
