Back to the pool

Okay, I went swimming yesterday and today. I think I will take tomorrow off.

I could only do 5 laps yesterday with a combo back stroke and dog paddle. lol

Today, I could only cruise, no real strokes but I stayed in the water for almost two hours.

I feel so weak. It will be a while until I can swim a mile again but, who cares?

I am still mostly pain free, I only feel an occasional twinge or two. I have not felt this way in over five years. I take less Lyrica and only needed one dose of zanaflex in 10 days. I still use the extra strength Tylenol.

I tried to find a malic acid/magnesium combo at whole foods today but they did not have it. I guess I will order some online. Since I contracted so many viruses this winter I am taking my multivitamins also.

So, I have returned swimming. The folks at the pool were glad to see me back. However, the 90 something year olds have gotten faster since I was last there.

Hi Donnaeil,

I have been watching your progress and great you are back in the pool. You will slowly get it back. Also that is great on the pain being so much better. Not only do you have the swimming but the social contacts that are so important.

Keep paddling Lady. You inspired me.

Just keep thinking the 90 year olds have gotten faster Donnaeil, hehehe. Hey, I'm just happy that you got back to the pool. You are such an inspiration to the rest of us. I wish I had access to a pool without driving 45 minutes to get there. I think I would be so embarrassed to put a bathing suit on the shape my body has taken on. I would look like an apple bobbing in the water.

 

You have had a rough winter so give yourself time to get back in shape.

Oh yeah. I still feel like a hippo getting out of the water. That is why I am glad I have a wheel chair to clunk down into. In addition, since it is electric all I need to do is push the joystick.

I sit on the handicapped bench in the shower.

Water exercise will give you the same high that runners get. So, most of the time you will feel a tad disoriented and happy when coming out. The swimmers call it the swimming zone.

Working out in water is the deepest from of meditation which is one of the reasons it is good for some pain relief.

I swam for 2 days in a row and I am taking today off. I do not want the pain to come back so I am being nice to my body.

However, I feel so wonderful that I am making a lasagna and french bread from scratch today. Right now the bread is rising and the sauce is simmering. My daughter is doing about half of the work because I have not made her home made lasagna in over 6 years. She said she is glad her 2 brothers are not here to gobble it all up. lol

I can't wait until my pool is warm enough to start swimming again! My pain level goes down alot when I can swim everyday. Its really the only exercise I can do. If I could afford it I would heat the pool year round.
