Guaifenesin

Has anyone taken or takes guaifenesin for fibro pain?  If so did it help?

I heard that this med is quite common for fibro. In one of my fibro books I have, it's one of the first meds it talks about and has a whole chapter on it. Thats why I'm quite surprised it hasnt been mentioned on here, some people swear by it for pain. theirs even this one lady I've seen online (not here) that takes it for her fibro and her small son takes it for his fibro too, and they say it's been great. It comes in the pure form by prescription for fibro, but since I dont know anyone personally or anybody on here talk about it, I've just not tried it at all. Actually I did have a doctor offer it to me before, but I wanted to do more research on it, but never got around to it. I guess it's takin in a much higher dose then the one for coughs, and the one thats prescription comes in a pure form and not any added things like the OTC ones have for colds. I guess since it's used for coughs, alot of people are turned off by it thinking "how would a cough med help my fibro pain?".

It is based on a study by Dr. Paul St Amand. The protocol has a patient take 600, 1800 or 2400 mg daily, dosage can increase from minimum as symptoms show "reversal" of stored excess of phosphates in the body. This is extremely oversimplified, but from I have learned, I want to do more research and read some new papers on the protocal. If anyone does go on the protocal, they must rid themselves of all salicylates. The studies I have read draw two interesting points, things that have often been mentioned here- that FM is inherited and that it is progressive. Also some studies conclude that it is auto-immune.
