I've noticed that I can't wear a bra anymore without horrible pain.  Does anyone know of a good sleep bra or any brand I could wear that wouldn't be so painful?  Does anyone else have this problem?  When I'm home and not going out anywhere... I just don't wear one.

I need help!  Thank you.

Been there, done that!!! LOL!!! Hi Dianna, if I haven't welcomed you before, then welcome this is a great place to find help & support. These people are very loving & caring. Well, I only wear a bra when I am going out somewhere or if someone is coming over to visit. They are definitely a pain to wear. A sports bra is comfy sometimes but for the most part as soon as my shoes come off so does my bra. I have tried various types from cheap to expensive & they are just not comfy for us Fibromites. Thanks for the welcome Denise, It's nice to know I'm not the only one who just can't wear a bra.  LOL  I am trying to find a nice sleep bra...I probably could get away with wearing something like that.  They've got to be more comfortable.... and give a little support.

Dianna, most of us don't wear bras unless we are heading out of the house.  I even walk the dog around the neighborhood without a bra on and that's not a pretty sight!  smhair    But when I go to the stores or out in public I do put on a bra but it is the first thing I take off when I get home.

I am with you on this one, bras have to be my number one nemisis every day. I work as an administrative assistant, and I am fairly well endowed so not wearing a bra is just not an option. I have found that bras from Lane Bryant and Torrid, while not cheap, tend to fit better and feel a bit better. A lot of my bra pain is in my shoulders from the straps so I look for ones that have gel padding on the straps or even strapless as long as it is supportive.

To be honest, and this may sound really weird, the only undergarment I have found that is supportive and comfortable is a historically accurate custom made 1860's corset. I do historical re-enacting and this piece is part of my outfit. My mom is a historical costumer and seamstress and she made this for me. If I don't tight lace it it is the most comfortable thing on earth. It supports me, and it even helps with my posture which to some degree does cut down on pain. I am going to see if she can design me a new daily wear corset that I can maybe lace up myself and wear without a full underslip (chemise).

They really are the greatest things on earth in my opinion. My mom is weel endowed too and she has a couple daily wear ones that she uses and it really cuts down on her shoulder and back pain (she doesn't have FM, she's just getting older...but shhhh I didn't say that lol). If you do decide to try a corset please don't get one from the lingerie section those are not meant to be supportive and will poke and jab at you constantly. I know they aren't cheap, but if you can find a good historical costumer in the area you might be able to work out a deal if you explain the situation.

Oh what a sight, although I'm pretty flat chested.  I haven't worn a bra since the 70's.  Never, ever, unless I'm going to a wedding or something and I have been known to go in the rest room and take it off.  Don't care. Sometimes I don't even put on my Victoria Secret red lace thong either...Now there's a visual that makes me laugh!  I'm just an old hippie and back then it was fashionable to not wear one...but now it's a medical necessity.  If I HAVE to wear one I put on a soft sports bra.  If people can't take a joke, then ta hell with um'!

Unfortunately not wearing one is about as painful as wearing a bad one for me. They are just too heavy and cause my back to go into fits if I don't have some support. At home I tend to get away with the cami style tank tops that have the shelf bras in them....those are my favorites on the weekends and around the house. For work though, they just don't cut it :(

Jamie, I have the same issue. Bras hurt terribly around the ribs, but going without causes terrible back pain (I too am very top heavy)

I absolutely can not wear anything with underwire, and have tried all different kinds of soft ones with very little success. I can't do lacy type ones or any type of rough frilly fabric because that irritates my skin and makes me itch (which causes the sensitive burning pain that was talked it about in that other thread Rach started..) Cami's aren't supportive enough for me, but sports bras are a little TOO supportive (they tend to smush things..lol) But then just a few months ago I found a specific Just My Size bra that is wonderful. It's like a sports bra without the smushing and as supportive as an underwire without the actual wire. So, the best of both worlds for me!

I have to wear a bra every day, because as I said if I don't, the back starts screaming. But I do take it off in the evening and don't wear it to bed.

Hmmm, may have to check out the Just My Size ones Danielle. I need everyday bras that I can wear without costing me an arm and a leg. The camis are only good if I'm not really doing anything, if I have to be up and moving a lot then they aren't much use to me either.

The best I've found is the Enell sports bras. They're a bit pricey but I can wear that longer than anything else.

They are super soft and super comfortable-I love them! They're not too expensive, either. I found mine at Wal-mart for around $14 a piece. Hopefully they work as well for you as they do for me!

I am reading these posts, and here I don't wear a bra inless i go out also. 12 years ago I had a breast reduction I was really huge, and medicare paid for it because it was nessicary. I had a crushed vertabrey (I can't spell at all tonight sorry) anyhow. I still am hunched over from the constant weight those things put on me. I remember the canoe marks on my shoulders and the pain. Also looking for a bra, I am so glad I had that done. I hope you find a comfortable bra, I am still looking for one also, .. : )

LOL! A funny subject, but so practical! I am so glad I am not the only one out there to find bras so painful. Over the past few years I have found only a few that I can wear - believe me I could sleep in these buggers! Also, I am quite busty so finding a good but comfortable fit is difficult. Maybe I've already done the leg work of finding comfy ones for some of you!! I first started with a "bralet" which is similar to a sports bra, but doesn't smash so much and feels a little more flexible. They are thinner fabric. Granted you can't run in them without attracting attention, but I sure don't do much running anymore with this stupid disease! I was able to get them at discount stores like Walmart, in brands like Hanes and Just My Size. The latest comfy ones I found are made by Cacique and can be bought online and at Lane Bryant. They are all cotton and do not have any wires in them. They do have a layer of cotton inside the cups that provides support. They look good under tee shirts and even for dressier clothes. The store almost always has in store specials if buying more than one. I buy them a little larger around and make sure to get an ample cup size. I wash and then hang to dry and never undo the hooks, just put them on over my head which is quick and much easier!

Just wanted to give you all a link for the Enell sports bra. My bra cup size is off the charts and I can wear this pretty much all day. They suggest you might want to go a size larger if wearing for leisure.

I prefer the ones without underwire, un-padded and with thick gel padded shoulder straps, unfortunately, they are the same brand my grandmother wears, and at 27 aren't very ooh la la, but it keeps me from hurting so much, and since I have to get them custom made (51 inch bust, 32 inch rib cage) the least attractive is usually cheaper.
