I also posted this on the lupus forum. My docs can't seem to figure out how they want to diagnose me, and I'm on the brink of insanity!!

Does anyone have chronic skin problems, such as when shaving legs your skin explodes into being itchy and inflamed for days? It doesn't seem to matter what kind of razor/wax/nair/etc. I use.

I also have keratosis on my upper arms and upper legs, which seems to be getting worse.

The doctors can't seem to diagnose me. I'm about to go crazy!! I wonder if any of this could be lupus related?

Any thoughts?

Try putting oil on your skin before you shave, lather good and then use shaving cream. That is the only way I can do it. I also found that neem oil soap helps really good with rashes. Then I put oil again after shaving.

I have crazy skin issues. Shaving causes havoc, especially around the bikini area and thighs. I generally put betadine on after shaving because I just break out in pimples like crazy. I also get random contact dermatitis with no apparent cause. My neck and hair line are especially prone to rash. I don't know if any of it has to do with fibro because my mother has crazy skin issues, too. Could be genetic in my case. *shrug* It's all a mystery.

I can shave my legs fine, though they get incredibly dry and scaly if I don't put lotion on afterwards. But my bikini line is a nightmare after I shave. Whenever I'm having a flare I also get a mild malar rash.

Excema too, especially in dry weather. I get weird scaly patches all over.

Last night I had a sleep study, and I've got little patches of rash all over where the adhesive was. So not exactly the same problem, but my skin is very sensitive.

Yes, I need to use lotion to keep my skin from being really itchy, too.  Skin problems is a symptom of fibromyalgia.  Here is a link all about it.  Hope this helps.

Thanks so much for the responses, you guys. I haven't been online for a bit because I'm in a flare and have been so tired. I can't tell you how much I appreciate the support and the information.

My skin has turned very dry everywhere. Lotions helps some areas. My stomach and back are loaded with dry bumps or spots. As for shaving your legs, I use hair conditioner, any kind will do, and soap up with the hair conditioner and I don't get the bumps on my legs. my skin sure feels dehydrated. Hope the hair conditioner helps.

Yes I have terrible shaving problems - though not for days. After shaving my legs are in raging excruciating pain for about 30 minutes. I had laser hair removal because of that. The pain of laser hair removal was nothing compared to shaving and I only had to do it twice. It was worth it. Now I shave about once a week and to help with the pain, use hair conditioner, expensive razors, aveeno lotion. I never ever put soap on my legs unless I have been working in the yard and get dirty legs. Never dry with a towel either. Those things really help.
