I meant to post this a long time ago and I apologize for taking so long. A while back I mentioned going to a psych who told me about
pain coping techniuqes and helping to "break" the pain pathways (more like superhighways) our brain establishes. I heard this from my rheumatolgist/pain management doc too. It worked while I did it, but like a lot of things I try, I stop when I feel better, then get to feeling bad again.
This is copied from the handwritten copy my psych gave me. It's really just relaxation, but it does make me feel better when I do it.
Autogenic TrainingSit in a relaxed postion, eyes closed and begin to breathe slowly and deeply.
On Inhale, say to yourself, “Soft” amd focus on making your abdomen or belly, soft.
As you exhale, say the word “relax”
Once fully relaxed, Repeat these six phrases- six times each.
My arms and legs are heavy………I am at peace.
My arms and legs are warm………I am at peace.
My heartbeat is calm and regular……… I am at peace.
My abdomen radiates warmth………I am at peace.
My forehead is cool…………I am at peace.
My breathing is easy………….I am at peace.
