Possible fibromyalagia?

hello,

I am concerned that I may have fibromyalgia. My aunt has it and I received an email from my uncle(her husband) today saying that, based on the symptoms I described, I sound exactly like her. I have chronic headaches, with pain widespread. I have pain from head to toe, and this isn't just regular aches. This pain has been coming and going for months. I haven't seen a doctor, because I have no insurance yet, but am going to look into getting it at work soon. I was diagnosed with peptic ulcer disease almost 3 months ago and all of the problems associated with that disease just add to my other pains. I'm also on the autism spectrum and the problems with that just add even more to the burden. It's gotten so bad that I had to get a very short hair cut because I couldn't hold my arms up to do my hair anymore. I've been on WebMD and using their symptom checker, and the number one condition which always came up was fibromyalgia. I took the fibromyalgia health check and even that said based on the answers I gave, that I have a high likelihood of having fibromyalgia.

Please, if anybody out there with fibromyalgia has similar problems/symptoms and think I may have it, let me know. Thank you.

:-) Hey Andrea and welcome to the forum! I can't tell you if you have fibro, but you do have familiar sounding symptoms. Have you read Fibromyalgia 101, second thread at the top of the forum? It's really helpful!

Please feel free to vent, ask questions (even if we don't always have the answers, we may be able to suggest where to look) -- best of all you don't have to be alone with your pain and all the confusing symptoms -- nobody understands like another fibromite! tongue

Hi Andrea and welcome to our family! Nice to have you join us.

I'm not a doctor and obviously can't diagnose you but yes, all of your symptoms sound very familiar. about your health insurance...if you have trouble getting it at work you might consider state sponsored health care where you live. You can find it online for any state if you're in the US. If you have trouble still then call your local Red Cross and they will help you find health insurance. Sounds strange but they do that kind of assistance too.

I agree with Shash...keep posting, asking questions, and learning about this disorder. It's one of those 'invisible' conditions that is hard for doctors to diagnose and treat and some do better than others. Oh, one more thing about health care...if you can't get it for a while be comforted in knowing that fibromyalgia is not life threatening. What you will be missing out on is some possible relief of symptoms and a better quality of life. But you will get help soon...I'm sure.

Hi, Andrea, and welcome!  These symptoms seem to be similar to fibromyalgia.  You do need to be checked out because fibro symptoms mimic other illnesses.  Your doctor will run you through test to rule out other problems first before giving the diagnosis of fibromyalgia.  So, as soon as you have insurance, you need to be checked out.

 

Be sure to check out the Fibro 101 thread...the second thread on the forum.  There are links to good information about fibro, including a list of symptoms.  You just might see yourself there.

 

Read back posts.  There is a world of info in them, too.  Also, don't hesitate to ask questions.  We are here to help you.  I'm so glad you found us and joined in.  I hope to hear more from you soon.

Hi Andrea and welcome to the family. Your symptoms sound all too familiar on here. I'm sorry your aunt has fibro but it is nice having someone you know with it if you don't know anything about it.

 

You have been given some great advice on here and I hope you get a dx soon so you can be treated.

Thank you everyone for welcoming me to the forum!!

Even though I don't have any insurance yet, I called my boyfriend's doctor today and asked if he was taking new patients. He is, and I told the lady my symptoms, and she said, and I quote, "he doesn't handle chronic pain". Ok, he's a doctor and doesn't handle chronic pain. he's a family doctor, so ***!!??

There's another nearby doctor who is taking new patients, but the receptionist said the office call, depending on the visit, would be between $55-100s. May need to think about medicaid. My boyfriend and me rode our bikes out to the FIA building we have here in Owosso, to get me a bool to fill out to qualify for medicaid. And, after all the pain I went through riding to get there, the place was closed till tomorrow. Ugh!!

I''m glad I found a forum where the people actually care about one another and don't post any rude and hateful messages. Thanks to all of you!!

sorry to hear your feeling so bad. There is a lot of help here. I also cut my hair short as i can't hold up the dryer anymore. My house will never be painted either but i suppose there are worse things. I hope you can get a dx verified soon as then at least you can accept it and move forward,
