bee stings?????

LMHO!  I'm sitting here watching The Doctors on TV.  They are talking about "unusual" medical treatment trends.  Apparently there is a belief that bee stings can help relieve chronic pain--- even that of fibromyalgia!  Dr. Travis took a sting to the knee.

BEE THERAPY??? shocked   I DON'T THINK SO! nono

I have always been interested in apitherapy because I have family friends who are beekeepers; the husband keeps the bees, and the wife uses them for therapy for her MS, and the husband uses them for his rheumatoid arthritis. They both eat organic honey every day. They are elderly, and the wife believes the bee venom has kept her MS under control for so long; there is a chemical in the venom that is said to block inflammation. I wonder about its effectiveness for fibro because it is not inflammatory (just feels like it!). Me? I don't mind bees or needles, but sure wouldn't want to put myself through lots of stings a day!!

uhhhh can't we just extract the bee venom and put it into some kind of pill or something?
I do know that local honey is good for allergies!

Here here! I am for extracting the venom. This therapy has been around for a long time. I was stuck once by a wasp, in the bum while eating in a restaurant.

This is not something I would volunteer for again. I hear it works though

maybe it feels different if you are stung where you have pain. I wonder how they would do that . . . bee stings cause inflammation, though. How can the venom be anti inflammatory?

I was wondering the same thing, Stat. I always swell up after being stung, so how could that be ani inflammatory?

LOL I stepped on a bee once when I was a kid - barefoot. It wasn't pretty. Guess that's what triggered my bee-ophobia

I once saw an interview with an elderly lady who had been stung hundreds of times by the "killer bees" in her yard. Her neighbor saved her life, and she said that since the attack, her arthritis has been much improved. Once she healed from the attack, she could walk without her cane.
If they could find a way to get the bee venom into me without having to suffer the stings, I'd try it, but there's no way I'd sit still and let bees repeatedly sting me.
