Cow patties kicked my butt!

I got a speeding ticket and elected to do community service to pay it off.  I volunteered at the wildlife butterfly refuge.  I did not know that the job would be picking up cow patties for hours on end!  They bring in the cows to eat the weeds then the patties have to be picked up because the butterfly habitat plant does not like cow patty nutrients.  What I wonder is how in the world do they keep the cows from eating the butterfly habitat plant?  I do it then go home and lie down for one to two hours.   Thank God it is nearly over. Oh and Thank God the patties are all dried up!!!  Won't be speeding again any time soon!

They've been working so hard to make sure the butterflies live there. The refuge has been there since the 80s and they are fighting like mad against what seem like overhwelming odds to keep the butterfiles. They have to bring in cows to eat the purple weeds, capture female butterflies to breed, plant naked buckwheat plants in man made sand dunes because the original ones blew away, I guess, and drop butterfly larvae (caterpillers) back on the naked buckwheat plant. One starts to wonder if maybe the butterfly has moved on to a new location. From what I can see, it should be a ground squirrel, purple weed and star thistle habitat.

LMHO!  Sue, when you got home did you tell your husband that you were pooped?

Oh Sue, when I read the title I thought maybe you had been in a cow patty throwing contest at the fair or something. You should keep them, I have heard they burn great in the winter in a wood stove. Being a farm girl I have stepped in my fair share of fresh ones and I would have elected to pay the fine.

Okay, I know that this is funny, but I am absolutely the most sensitive person in the world, and I just can't get over how mean it was to make a fibromite bend over all day and pick up cow patties, lol.    

 

I keep re-reading this, but every time I have the same reaction, "Oh that was so mean.  She must have been in so much pain.  Surely she could have done something else."    

 

I need to get a grip on myself.

That's funny!  If there are any cow patties left, I will tell them tomorrow that I am pooped!    (at first I read popped and thought, huh?  popped?)

They are all dried up.  I do remember reading in the clan of the cave bear series (or was it the diana gabladon series) that they burned dung for fuel.  I always thought that sounded really gross, but if you are cold and that is all you have . . .  Do they stink something awful when you burn them?  Probably doesn't smell as nice as cedar wood, huh?

Yesterday the water pump was in use, so the park ranger dude brought 5 gallon drinking water tub thingies and all the "volunteers" watered 200 naked buckwheats with paper cups.   I hear that tomorrow we are doing the same thing again.  Water the naked buckwheats and pick up cow patties.

Sorry Donna, no naked men in the dunes.  That would have been much more fun.
