doc confused me

Doc called today and asked how I was doing after botox injections.  I told him I was about to email and tell him I didn't want to do botox anymore.  He asked why. I said my neck still hurt a lot and it felt really weak.  he said he only put a little botox in my neck and that shouldn't happen.  He asked if my neck was stilff and, if so, it wasn't the botox that caused the problem.  so I turned my head from side to side and I could move without trouble, so I said no, my neck was not stiff.  so he said, then the botox is working for you.  (basically if my neck was stiff, then the botox didn't cause the pain and if my neck was not stiff, the the botox was working and did not cause the pain).  I told him that it still hurts a lot and all he said was the pain should be gone by now.  It is not.  He said maybe it was something else and I should ask my pcp. 

But the pain started right after the botox.  I have done nothing else.  I am so confused.  I guess I will just ride out the pain and not do botox again.  It doesn't seem worth it.

Your post confused me. No wonder you are confused. I'm glad you are not going to do the botox anymore.

Just a thought Sue, but maybe he hit a nerve with the needle???  The nurse did that with a tetanus shot I got once and OMG!

I had a nerve block in my neck that (dont mean to scare you) took me a month to recover from. The way he dug the needles around either side of my spine was horrible and just was not worth it. I am in terrible neck pain now and would be tempted to have surgery or a lovely neck brace before I let them stab me again. And it sucks when we dont respond the way they expect us to. I dont get it either.

Sue, it sounds like if your better he will take the credit for it but if your worse it's not his fault. That would make me a little suspicious of that doc. I have not researched the botox so I don't know that much about it.

I agree with Marlee.  Plus, he doesn't want to lose a paying customer.  If you are still in pain and you didn't have the pain before the injection, I wouldn't do it again either.  Your body is telling you that.

It kind of reminds me of 23 years ago when I had a car accident. (How do I remember this??) They put me in a neck brace and my neck muscles got weak and the chiropractor told me to take it off because it was weakening the muscles. When I took it off, I was really really sore. It kind of feels like that.

He wants to give me a shot in the tailbone. My tailbone hurts and never recovered fully from a fall. I am scared to do it. I was scared already, but now that the shots hurt my neck and shoulders so badly, I do not want to even try the tailbone shot. I would rather have the pain I have now.

So sorry for your experiences.

Not all doctors are skilled in their craft, and not all are skilled in all aspects of their craft. I have had lidocane injections for back pain that were heaven sent and nearly painlessly administered. But the doc used a small bore needle, and had a lot of experience. He is a public health doc, by the way.

I know of an expensive specialist who used a larger bore needle and caused a friend a great deal of what I think was unnecessary pain for the same procedure. I was with her, it hurt to watch. The outcome was not as effective, either, possibly caused by the trauma of the procedure itself.

And I think some doctors are closet sadists. Those doctors who inhabit a two dimensional universe of "it works so I'm right" or "it didn't work, not my fault" are scary.

I am allergic to just about every painkiller there is out there except for dilaudit every now and then in the ER, which I have only been twice this year. I have recently found that Ginger Root is helping with my inflamation that I have and that in turn helps with my pain. I don't care whatever works....right?.... Only just recently I found out that it can be a simulant as well which keeps me up all day and night....LOL... I will find the right amount to take soon. I kind of like the Ginger Root that I cut up and put in my own fruit smoothies.
