Sassy, the hydrocodone in Lortabs is a narcotic and can be habit-forming. You should only take the amount your doctor prescribed for you. My doctor said that's one of the problems using a narcotic for pain. He said that your body can become "accustomed" to it and then you need more to get the same relief. This can continue until you could possibly become addicted to the medication. So, it definitely is not good to take more than what your doctor prescribed.
You need to talk to your doctor and let them know that you are not getting the relief you need. Perhaps they will change your medication or possibly up the amount but do be careful and only take your meds as prescribed.
Have you tried the malic acid/magnesium supplements? They are not expensive and I know they have helped me a lot. They don't work for everyone but they might work for you to give you some added relief.
You are really stressed out right now and so you are going to be in more pain. You should keep doing gentle stretching and some form of light exercise like walking. Dig out the Bed Buddy and take a nice hot bath or shower. Try to focus on things other than the pain. If I stop to think about how I feel, I feel every pain in my body and it sure isn't fun. But, I try to occupy myself and the pain tends to fade a bit into the background.
You can try some deep breathing exercises, too. It's like the Lamaze breathing. Take a very deep breath by inhaling through your nose and then purse your lips tightly, like you are blowing through a straw, and slowly let the air out. Do this several times. You can feel the stress leave and the muscles relax.
Try to control your pain by using all of these techniques. I said "control your pain" because you will probably still have pain but it will be bearable and you can function and carry on with your life. You do become somewhat accustomed to it. For me, it is just a part of my life. I've accepted it and have it under control, except when having a flare. Then, I know I will hurt but I also know it will stop hurting that much eventually. But please don't try to be pain-free using narcotics because that could really spell trouble for you.
Try to relax and I hope you start to feel better soon.
