My period and fibro

Hi all,

I know it's been awhile.  I've been doing okay for the past couple months.  I'm not taking any meds for my fibro as I found that Lyrica was making me extremely dizzy.  I do have a couple new (to me) symptoms.  Restless leg syndrome.  Boy does it drive me crazy!  The other is IBS.  Usually more on the constipated side.

Now to my question.  When I flare I tend to flare when I start my period.  It's bad too.  I can hardly move.   It feels like the flue x's infinity.  Well I see my pcp this week for a pap and was thinking of asking for birth control.  The kind where you only get a period every 3 mths or so.  I'm thinking if there's no period there's no flare. 

I'm interested to hear what other's thoughts are!  It makes sense to me but I may not be thinking it all the way through.

I recently had a flare that started just before my period. I don't know if that is a coincidence or if it was related. My period was heavier than usual, so I wondered if I was low on iron or something because of it.

I've recently been taking Savella. It's a new drug, and I didn't realize how much it was helping me until I forgot to take it one day. I still have flares, but the drug has really helped me on a daily basis. It does make my heart race a little, which totally freaks me out, but my doc says it's not enough to worry about.

Right now I'm in the middle of a flare. All I can say is: it sucks and I'm trying to deal with it.

Hi...I had a hystrectomy at 22 because of horrible, chronic painful, never ending  periods and ovarian cysts that would break and bleed.  I became anemic from the constant loss of blood.  There was no name for fibro back then, (I'm an old broad) but I am sure I had it then and this was just a symptom that no doctor could figure out.

If there had been something like Yaz back then, I am wondering if it wouldn't have helped me, as I am pretty sure a  lot of my pain was fibro flares.  You just have to weigh the risks against the benefits.  I think these television commercials scare us sometimes when they list about fifty serious side effects.
