am I addicted??

I take nortryptiline for my fibro.
Is it considered an addiction if when I miss a day of taking it I am up ALL night unable to sleep.

This has happened to me twice now and I am hating the thought that I may be addicted to a drug!!

I do not believe that you are addicted. To me addiction is when you abuse a medication to get high. You could be dependent though on a medication after taking it for a long time. Is this medication helping your fibro? Why stop it if it is making you feel better? JMHO

I doubt it.  Your body is probably just accustomed to nortriptyline in order to sleep.  This is an antidepressant and people miss taking medications all of the time.  This isn't a narcotic, I don't believe.  It's other name is Pamelor and I had a friend taking this for depression.  She has taken it for over 25 years.

 

If you ever do want to stop taking this, you need to wean yourself off of it.

Hi Tanya!!! I have been on amitriptyline for about 11 or 12 years which is in the same family. I tried cutting down last spring and went into a horrible flare. I was put on it for anxiety not fibro but I do believe it helps with fibro pain. I don't like taking it cause there are side effects but it is very hard to get off of, I also get rebound anxiety when I've tried to go off of it. I'm not addicted but my body must need it.

The nortryptiline does help my fibro. Dr tried nortryp. over amyt. because it is supposed to have fewer side effects. And really the only side effect I have is hard to get up and going in the morning.

You guys have made me feel better about it though. Thanks. I guess the same as anything else I guess I just need it.

Nanners have you heard anything about Remi helping fibro. It seems a lot of my pain that was supposed to be fibro improved after a few doses of remi. Maybe my pain was crohn's instead? Doesn't matter I guess as I am not about to try that theory out by stopping Nortr.

I know that Remi does help some with their joint issues, but I think that is because when flaring we tend to have the Crohns related arthritis hit us and the Remi helps to get the flare back under control and at the same time eases the Crohns related arthritis. I have osteoarthritis and Fibro, and I can definetly tell the difference. The Fibro pain burns really bad, and the osteo pain is a deep ache. I hope that helps.
