The physical therapist asked me about my hobbies and I couldn't think of any except gardening.  Grad school, commuting, and fibro have stolen my hobbies!  I wanted to do something fun tonight, so I melted some old candles and made new ones.  That was fun, but I burned myself, splashed candle wax on me, and subsequently poured candle wax everywhere.  Then feet hurt so bad I had to sit down.    Decorated for Christmas a little, then had to sit down some more.  Maybe I could write for a hobby.  I would like to get back into theater and dance and singing.   How do you do hobbies?

My daughter was recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia, and the orthopedic believes she has rhumatoid arthritis (we're going to see if she can get into a rhumatologist).  She loves making jewelry.  I know that is more of working the hands, but she loves doing it and then she has something pretty to wear in the end.  Also, she makes them for gifts for family and friends.  I think anything that brings you joy and is uplifting to you would be great.  Since you mentioned the theatre, that would probably bring you some enjoyment since it was something on your mind.  I think gardening is great also, but I don't have a green thumb.  A friend of mine has a garden and herb garden.  She uses the fresh herbs all the time when she cooks.

I hope that you find something that will be enjoyable to you and at the same time help you with your fibromyalgia.

Sue, my biggest hobby is doing my family genealogy.  It is fascinating as well as exciting.  I also learn about the history at the time and print this all out because I'm putting together books for my children.

I love art, too.  Charcoal drawing or working with pastels is nice.  I've also done acrylic oil painting, too. 

Music is another hobby of mine.  I used to play four musical instruments by my deafness has taken away three of them.  But I still can hear my baritone uke and just playing it takes away stress and brings me joy.

I love cooking and trying out new recipes.  I don't do that very often know because I'm pretty much by myself here.  But, when my daughter is going to be home, I get busy in the kitchen.

I'm sure others will have more ideas.

Hobbies are great! 

Sherrine, I didn't know that you painted.  I paint too.  I am thinking about doing that this winter especially if I take a leave of absence from work. 

Sue you are a good writer.  You really should get into it. 

I also do wood burning and make jewelry.  Vickabee, I think it is great that your daughter makes jewelry.  And yes, it gives you something nice to wear when you are done.   And people love getting it.

One of my favorite "hobbies" is reading. I don't really know whether it constitutes as a hobby persay, but it is def something I enjoy doing. I also love listening to music. Music is my escape from the real world, and as lame as this may sound, I feel as if it has really gotten me though some hard times. And then of course, there is just relaxing and spending time with my fiance and my kitties. While that is def not a hobby, it's something that I def do enjoy!

Sue, I don't know if you remember this, but I love to dance, but can't do most of them anymore. So I take belly dance classes and joined a troupe. I do make sure I don't do anything else on dance class days, so that I have enough energy to make it through a 75-minute class. Diane

Sue, try writing fiction. You can write your own world, create your own friends, secretly write yourself into the story - I highly recommend it.

I write poetry and find that fibro has (especially recently) stolen a lot of my writing time. And that made me mad, because that's my me-time!

I want to write a funny essay for Traveler's Tales. We had some very funny things happen to us in Italy. I also want to write a biography of someone I know who has a good story to tell. I used to write fiction, but was not very good at it. I haven't tried for years. Maybe that will be fun.

Belly dancing! I love Belly dancing!!! Maybe that would be something. I don't like my belly, though. Do I have to expose my belly for belly dancing?? haha. I would like to join another mixed ability expressive dance group. The only one I know about is in Berkeley and that is too far since I work in Davis. The good thing about expressive dance is when I dance I look like a goose. I can say that is what I was trying to do!!! :)

And geneology. These are all really good ideas. Thanks!!

I love to crochet and loom knit! I make little hats for my 2 year old and scarves and all kinds of things! I also like to make beaded jewelry and make candles. Most of my hobbies are whatever I'm wanting to make! If I watch a crafting channel on TV and I see something I'd like to make, I find a way of making it! I like to make my own organizers for bills and letter and such with pictures I print out from the computer. I also run my own t-shirt printing company from home. I can put anything on a t-shirt including a favorite picture of your children or grandchildren, favorite pet, anything really. If you can think of it, I'll put it on a t-shirt or even a sweatshirt! I guess I have alot of hobbies! LOL I never thought of it really until I just wrote it out!

Jewellery sounds so fun. My sister does it, and has made such nice pieces.

I used to cross stitch and knit, but my hands can't take that anymore. Also, projects just take too long. I don't like to delay satisfaction ;)

Now I'm into digital scrapbooking. It's fun, and I love that i can make beautiful art even if I can't draw myself. There is no mess, and most pages only take me a few days to complete (and I'm slow). I'm hoping to complete a fairy tale book about my dd illustrated with images of her in a fairy tale setting. I'll be coming back after the holidays to pick your brains about story lines :) I do find that when I need to take my mind off my body with a hobby b/c I hurt too bad is when I can't do my craft. Sitting and thinking take too much out of me. But that can be said about any hobby.

I'm so jealous of all of you with your hobbies! I used to have so many and it seems as if I have lost interest in most of them lately. I really don't know why though. Ugh. It bothers me so much.
