Hi everyone ..I'm going to go and file for ssdi but my prob is my rheummy is a jackass ...sorry but she is..well anyway I think she may not agree to my ssdi for my fibromyalgia ..but I also have ibs ddd in my neck sacroilitis ..my talus bone removed which I can't stand on my foot and I lost all the motion in it I also havepsoriatic arthritis now these were diagnosed by a different dr and documented .now my question with all that wrong what do you think my chances are and should I just get a lawyer first or should I apply on my own first....any feed back is greatly appreciated..I also am on 6 kinds of meds 2 are pain pills and I have chronic fatigue syndrome

Forgot to mention I'm only 35 and I have 5 kids ...hubby isn't working cuz he helps me I can't get out of bed real fast so he helps with the kids and the house he is the best

I have no way of knowing what social security disability will do but since you have several other illnesses, your chance is better.  Have you talked to the other doctor that has diagnosed all the other problems about fibromyalgia?  If  you get them on board with that, too, your chances are probably better.  My doctor and surgeons sent all my medical records to social security administration and I received my disability in about eight months with no lawyer.  I did it myself.  I just did everything they told me to, step by step, and had all my doctors send the medical records.  They spoke for themselves and I had no problem at all.

Thank you so much for the info .I am gonna contact my dr.s this week.......I have 8 different places I was seen for the probs I have so its gonna be a long process

If you decide to get an attorney, get one that works on contingance (sp).  Meaning that he gets a percentage of what you get and doesn't charge you anything up front.   Get one that is familiar with the social security system.  Then you will know if you are going to get it or not, generally if they don't think you will get it, they wont take your case. 

I wish you the best.  Get all of your doctors on the same boat.  Let them know what is going on.  You will be farther ahead that way.

I'm not sure if I should just get the lawyer ..I think it would be easier I recently moved to georgia and my files are in pa ..so I think it will be easier for a lawyer to get it then me ...any suggestions

Merfy, I had moved to Florida and my records were in Ohio.  You do not need a lawyer to do this.  At least give it a try.  If you are denied, then get an attorney.  The lawyers suck the money away from you and you can probably do this on your own.  I did and it wasn't difficult, either.  I just was honest and followed their directions to a "T".

What you need to do is call the Social Security Administration and tell them you want to apply for disability.  They will schedule an interview with you and ask you a lot of questions.  Then they will tell you how to contact your doctors for your records to be sent to them.  I can't remember if the doctors sent them to me and I sent them on to SS or if the doctors sent it to SS directly.  They will tell you, though.  Then I had to see their doctors.  After that, they said they would contact me with the decision. 

 

I didn't get an attorney.  Why pay someone if you can do it yourself?  I'm not guaranteeing you will get it, though.  Actually, I didn't think I would get it because I have never considered myself disabled but SS did.  I would have been throwing my money away if I had gotten an attorney.  This is a big money maker for these lawyers.  Lots of times you still don't get it even if you have an attorney.  

 

Above all, be totally honest and don't exaggerate because they can see that a mile away!  Best of luck!

It has become harder to get SSD in the past few years.  Due to the government not wanting to let go of funds.  I personally think getting an attorney would be the way to go.  You can get free legal aid if you don't want to pay for an attorney, but I don't feel that they are as good, but who knows, if you are disabled, you are disabled.  Best wishes to you.

Lawyers can help at the appeal stage. They can handle the paperwork, collect medical records, appear at a hearing, and argue in your favor. If you lose the appeal, they can do the Request for Review, which is when you ask Social Security in Falls Church, VA, to go over the judge's decision and overturn it. For that, Social Security needs a full legal brief. The work on a contingency basis and don't collect unless you win your case. They don't collect the money directly from you but instead from the back benefits that Social Security awards you (your benefits are counted starting after the fifth month of disability - if you've had to appeal it is going to be a substantial amount of money). I agree that lawyers help at the appeal stage.  I didn't need to appeal their ruling because I was accepted the first time I tried.  That's why I have suggested that you try to do it on your own, first.  There were tons of advertisements for law firms to help obtain disability down here in Florida when I was going to apply.    They get a good chunk of change sometimes.  But, SS was clear on what I needed to do and I did it.  If I didn't get it, I would have gotten an attorney then.  Because I took that route, the only one that got any of that disability money was me and it did come in handy. 

 

Actually, I was considered disabled and able to draw on my deceased husband's SS from the day he passed on (two years previously).  So, I got quite a bit of money.  If I had gotten an attorney first, and things eased through like they did  (in a mater of months), that attorney would have gotten a nice chunk of change for really not having to do much at all, since I was able to do it myself with no legal knowledge.  Anyway, this is the last I'm writing about this.  This is the best advice I can give you.  I know you will make the right decision for you.

Thank you everyone .I'm gonna give it a shot on my own first and like karen said if I get denied then I will get the lawyer.....I'm receiving ss benefits for my 2 oldest boys there daddy died last year does that ss effect my ss......ill let y'all no how it pans out thanx again...
